Thank you Nick for your help. I did not know I had to do all this. I thought I just pressed a couple keys incorrectly together.

Thank you again for your help!

Sounds like your keyboard connector has come loose, these eyboard units are actually a seperate keyboard and mouse pad built into one unit, so the mouse's electronics are seperate,

you may also want to check the connector to see if there are any broken/bent pins in the connector (sometimes happens, when accidently unplugged)

hope this helps :)

The keyboard and touchpad suddenly froze up and I could not do anything with my computer except shut it off.

Hi joshandaye ,

The keyboard and the touch pad would have frozed because of the sytem being hung up.

In this case , a restart suffices and after you do that , it's best to have a scan of the hard disk for errors.

You can do this via the scandisk option from your computer, once you do a full scan, notice the difference between the system's performance before and after scan , you should find a significan difference and your system would not hung up usually.

Hope this works for you, in case you have any queries, let me know.

When I type on my keyboard, the pointer skips around. I can be typing on one line and all of a sudden, the typing is in another place.

hello, This happens because you are landing some part your hand (palm) in the touch-pad when you typing. which activates the touch-pad and makes sudden movements in the pointer.
This problems for lot of laptop users, unless you can get use to prevent the hand from touching the touch-pad, the only option is getting a USB keyboard where you can plug in without any drivers and type without any trouble.

I have an Acer Aspire 5517. Just the other day, my touchpad and keyboard stopped working. What do I do?

1 . Look for Fn function key - Most laptops have this special key Fn that is next to the Ctrl key on the keyboard. It should have a blue or green color, easy to find.

2 . Look for F1 to F12 functions keys, they are on the top row of the keypad. Look for one has an icon that looks like the touch pad, which is to control the touch pad of your laptop. It maybe F8 or F9 depends on each make of your laptop. These function keys also control the brightness, sound, wireless etc.

3 . Now hold down the Fn key and the F10 key to enable the touch pad, in this example, the Toshiba laptops. You press them again to disable it

4 . If none of the above works, plug in an USB mouse, then check into the Control Panel -> touch pad or mouse configurations. Also, check Device Manager if the touch pad driver is installed and working properly.

Thanks.Have a great day.

Compaq 3702 keyboard not working

Try to go to the Bios of the computer..Power on the computer and hit F2 continuously until you reach the BIOS or blue page..If you were able to go to the BIOS it means that the keyboard is working..Also try to go to one time boot menu..Power on the system and hit F12 as soon as you see the ACER logo..It is also one way to check that the keyboard is not faulty..

If you weren't able to go to the BIOS or Boot Menu..You need to replace the keyboard and also the touch pad of the system but if you were successfully go to the BIOS or Boot Menu it's either the driver of the keyboard and pointing device or software conflict..

  • If you are using XP and you have the OEM disc..You can perform system restore inside windows or in the recovery console..Here is the link for system restore in recovery console http://www.myfixes.com/articles/system..
  • If this will not work you need to reinstall the operating (fresh copy, data deletion)

I have an Acer Aspire 5517 and all of a sudden, the keyboard will stop working. The touch pad works fine but nothing on the keyboard (nothing! the letters, numbers, hotkeys) will work. Can anyone explain...

With an Acer, most likely the keyboard went out or the ribbon cable from the motherbaord came loose. The touchpad and keyboard are separate units so will work independent of each other. It's a simple replacement.

Sony viao vgn-fe790 touch pad suddenly went dead - cursor will not move. Any ideas??

Do you have the recoovery CDs/ If not then go to
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFE790
and download the drivers for the touch pad and install it. It could verywell be a corrupted driver.

Unless it is a hardware fault open the control panel>system>mice and uninstall the touchpad. Then rebott. It should solve the problem.

Acerr Aspire 5315-2940

I don't know if you mean that your cursor suddenly moves as you are typing? If so, it is likely your touch pad is too sensitive. I have a mouse w/mouse pad but never disabled the touch pad. So i disabled the touch pad and it solved it for me. If you want to be sure it is the touch pad being over sensitive, then type a paragraph but keep your fingers and palms far away from the touch pad. If the problem improves, like it did for me, then the touchpad is too sensitive. You can go into the settings for the touchpad to change the sensitivity setting to make it less senstive and see if that works and it does not then press Fn +F7 keys to disable the touchpad.
