Since your sound is obviously working, the problem is with your sound schemes in Windows. Click on Control Panel and go to Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the "Sounds" tab and at the bottom, you can change the default sound(s) you want to play for each Windows function. Scroll down to "Windows Logon" and click "Browse" to choose the sound you want to play at startup.

Problem solved :) Remember to rate

No sound from new HP desktop

use the line out or earphone plug and connect it to a receiver or other amp to check if it gives music.

do you see a loudspeaker icon on the right down side of the task bar?
if yes then at least internally windows has recognized your system has a sound device.(which does not mean it has to work properly ;-)

if not, go through hardware detection( see the settings section: right-click on start button, goto settings, choose system or hardware icon then, next: device manager, double-click)
wait if it shows any unknown devices, let it scan for drivers on the windows-cd or install cd for audio-card or the support-cd of the mainboard, install, reboot and sound check again,

if still the prob, please come back to fixya giving more details(model, mainboard, soundcard and operation system version)...
good luck

Problems with sound that is coming from computer (output monitoring)

The first thing you should do is to uninstall the EDIROL UA-101 USB2 Driver Ver.1.0.3 for Windows XP and reinstall the system. If the problem persist try to use other usb cable, if the problem still the same please let me know inorder to make another procedure to follow to identify the problem.

Hope this will be helpful.

What sound card have you got? you probably unintentionally removed the driver along with the program, you will need to put the driver back on.

One guess, is that the RAM in your system is too small. Try expanding to 1G by adding 512mb (if you have an available slot), or expand by adding a new module.

Windows closing slow means you have a bunch of program that are running in the back ground. Windows has to close each before the system can shut down. To see just what is running in the back ground. Allow windows to completly finish opening. Click the start button, click run. In the window type, msconfig & click ok. System Configuration Utility window will open. Click on the Startup tab. Now you can see just what programs are running in the back ground.
Adding memory can also help speed up a slow pc & keeping the system clean by using the two programs listed next.
First. Run disk cleanup, a windows program found in system tools. Than run Defrag also found in system tools. Restart the pc when finished. This should help your system to run a bit better.
If you have the CD that came with the sound card uninstall the software through Add/ Remove programs found in the control panel. Restart the pc. Reinstall the drivers from the CD & try opening a few programs. Open & run the program your using to play music. Any better? If not try using another music program like iTunes a free download found here. http://www.apple.com/itunes/
You can also try the drivers from creative they may be newer than your CD here: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/welcome.asp?action=next
Enjoy!
