Windows is using Window's default scan driver, so it's working only within Windows scan wizard feature. You will need to install the Scan Driver separately to work with SmarThru and other software. The Scan Driver is available at Samsung website.
Hi, The all in one solution software you used in XP doen't work with Vista.
But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.
1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP 1410v) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.
You need sofrware that captures the scan from the scanner. usually comes with the printer, you have to opemn the program and tell it to scan and save.
Scanning by just placing a paper on the scanner and pressing the scan button just tells the printer to scan and probably print a copy, but it doesnt send it to the computer unless theres a program asking for it. Check the installation cd and go through the software that came with it.
The first thing I would do is to completely uninstall, reboot & reinstall the HP software suite. If the unit can copy, the scanner function is OK from a hardware standpoint. However, when your software attempt to initiate a scan, the software is failing to communicate with your all in one properly.
If you don't have the CD, you can download it here (but I will forewarn you, the download is huge - 365MB) :
