Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer

Dell 3100cn Printer

The problem with my printer: It is not printing. I always get a message "Ready to Print," but it will not print. Checking the network and connections, everything is okay. It appears that a problem is within the printer. One thing, when I checked the print menu, I got a message, "Please turn on RAM disk." What could be the problem?

I will appreciate your help.

I keep getting this internal message when I connect my laptop to print. Once I restart the printer without the connection to the laptop the printer is in ready mode. However as soon as I attached the cable again to the printer to print, the internal error code comes up "40a44664 3T 915 Rip

Hi Lillie,

No, the message for RAM disk has nothing to do with your issue. RAM disk is an option for that printer, but most users do not have that option, and if you accessed the menu for the 3100 on most of the machines in use you would receive that same error.

Although the printer itself shows " ready to print", this does not mean that your computer is communicating with the printer. In Fact, that message would show up even if you did not have it attached to any computer, as long as it was turned on and passed the self test.

More then likely the problem lies within the computer, NOT the printer.

To test the printers functionality, try printing a menu item, from the "reports" menu. Select either the printer settings, or the PCL Fonts report. When selected, the printer should print which ever report you selected.

One thing you may want to check is to see if there are any print jobs " locked up " in the print spooler on your computer, and also make sure that the printer is not set to "work offline".

To do this, open the control panel, go to your "printers" folder, then double click on your printer.
This will open up the printer information for that printer. If there are any jobs in the print queue, they will show up here.

if there are any print jobs stacked up, usually it is the top job that had a problem and is "stuck". This will prevent any job sent after that to be held, pending release of that one.

single click the top job and either restart the job, or delete it.

Also, make sure that the printer is not set to work offline by clicking on "printer" from the menu and ensure that work offline is not checked.

Good luck.

We are getting error code 004-332 Restart Printer on our Dell 3100cn printer. We have tried unplugging and restarting print spooler but it still come up witht message when we try to print

Hi

This error code on Dell 3100CN occurs when toner cartridges are not seated properly and/or are not properly locked in. Turn off the printer and unplug it. Now, you need to open the front door and pull out the drum. Try moving the carousel and check if it moves freely. While moving the carousel back and forth try adjusting the cartridges. try to unlock the cartridges and lock them again.

Now turn off the printer and turn it on after 1-2 min.s.

How do I clear data from my RAM disk on Dell 3100cn printer

The RAM for the printer is temporary.
turn off the printer and unplug the printer from the outlet. wait for 20 sec. plug the printer in and turn it on.
you can select in the printer properties page of the printer to print immediately instead of spool and print from the last page first. that will eliminated the ob store in the RAM.

My Dell 3100cn will not print unless I press Init NVRAM and restart printer every time I want to print. This is annoying. Can you help? Thanks! Greg

this implies that you need to restart the printer again. However, do check to see if toner cartridges are seated in the proper position. Also ensure that they have been locked in. This is an error commonly associated with the Dell 3100cn laser printer.

Ram disk

Stangowner, In this case, the print job is too large for the available printer memory. Your choices are one of the following: Press to clear the message, cancel the current print job, and conduct the next print job, if any. · Press Cancel to cancel the current print job. · Press Menu to open the Stored Print and delete the current job. To avoid this error in the future, do the following: · Reduce the number of print pages such as splitting the print data. · Increase free memory space by deleting unnecessary data in the RAM disk. As for the RAM disk: When you send a job to the printer, you can specify in the driver that you want the printer to hold the job in memory. When you are ready to print the job, you must go to the printer and use the operator panel menus to identify which job in the memory you want to print. You can use this function to print a confidential job (Secure Print), or verify one copy before printing additional copies (Proof Print). NOTE: The printer holds the job until you delete it by using the operator panel or you turn off the printer. (This is the RAM disk) NOTE: Print and Hold functions require a minimum of 320 MB available printer memory. Also, you need to configure the RAM disk settings on either the OPERATOR PANEL OR THE PRINTER DRIVER. NOTE: Depending on the documents, its job may be too big for the available memory. In this case, an error occurs. Take this link and print it out. Envelope printing

Got a 3100CN and had the same problem but found that a) Changing paper size from the web doesn't work but b) Go to the printer control panel on the printer and use the menu to set the paper size for the MPF tray for FREE. Now your application under windows will overide the whatever the printer thinks and will print. Envelope via Word all work without problem. Suggestion . Configure two printers one B&W using tray one and one colour using MPF and you can now quickly select whether to use colour or b&w. Regards John N - N2UYI/G7LTQ
