Did Vista come with this computer? Is this a vista certified laptop? Or was Windows XP upgraded to windows Vista? Most of these issues are driver related, if it worked fine in XP and has issues with vista.

Hope this tidbit helps, feel free to ask again if i can help you further

When you get it to start, click START-settings-controll panel-SYSTEM-hardware (tab at top)-then press the "device manager" button. you are looking for any yellow astericks, question marks, or exclamation points next to a listed device. These depict hardware that either has a bad driver, no driver or is not working. please check these and post again with your findings.

Slowing slow and probems keep coming

Hello Nancy,
There are many reasons a computer can slow down. Here are some maintenance procedtures you should do on a regular basis.
You should defrag your hard disk ona regular basis to keep your computer up to speed. Many of these tasks can be automated with the scheduling features in Windows.
Check for and install any operating system updates. Make sure you have "Automatic Updates" turned on.
Run a full system anti-virus and anti-spyware scan. Make sure your anti-virus and anti-spyware software are up to date. If you don't have these on your computer, there are many good free anti-virus software. Do a Google search for free anti-virus and anti-spyware. Also, clear the cache on your browser. Delete all history and cookies and temp folders. There are also websites such as http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ that does free online scans.
You should also stop unwanted progams from stsrting. To do this go to Start menu, enter msconfig, and click OK. Click startup and uncheck startup programs you don't use. Then click services and uncheck services you don't use. If after doing this and something stops working that you need, again bring up startup and services and re-check the ones you want to run.

These basic maintenance steps should help keep your computer running up to speed.
I hope this helps you.

My pc.. desktop is very slow.. its a windows vista

You may want to look into upgrading your RAM if there is less than 2GB installed. This is a recommendation that I have found in working with several PC's running this Operating System. Also, you would want to run disk clean up and remove any temporary files that Windows finds. Deleting any other temporary or unused files from your PC on a regular basis should increase system performance. In addition, if these steps do not solve your problem, you may want to consider upgrading to a faster performance hard drive (preferably a SATA II with a 32MB cache). As a last resort, you may look at your CPU to see if there is an upgrade for it, as well. Keep in mind that Vista is a resource hog and can slow down a PC within just a short period of time.

My 18 month old computer freezes for about a minute .

could be 100 problems. but the pricipal ones are, moisture, very high fragmented hard drives with lot´s of junk files and bad system configurations. next time the computer freezes let him freezed for one or two hours and see if any activity happening on the hard drive. try open the pc case and very gently clean the rams, cpu cooler and the rear fans.

If you are running Vista, it probable is your operating system.
Vista has alot of problems with loosing things like dirves, printers, the mouse and even itself at times.
The best thing to try is a full format and recovery and then after about 4 hours of this then spend another 6 hours getting all the updates for it. Then you can reinstall your stuff.
Or you can upgrade it to Win 7 next month and have a whole new set of problems.

My MP3 Maker (Special Edition) software will not run properly on my computer. I am using Windows Vista. Do I need an updated Driver? Regards Tom

You're on the mark my friend-you will have to find a Vista compatible driver{s} which you will very likely find at the MP3 makers website-you might solve the problem through Microsofts Update Software-Microsoft update thier software on a regular basis to accommodate newly develloped componanents and so should you.Sorry for the pun.Regards Georgeo.
