Also go to START- ALL PROGRAMS- STARTUP.. These are startup shortcuts for programs that add default startups for programs installed since windows was installed. right click on any programs here and press delete to stop thier starting. This will not uninstall or change anything besides keeping there programs from starting when windows starts. All can be opened manually after the comuter boots still.

Is there any error or the System hang out during Shutdown!

You can do one thing disable the startup items from the msconfig.

Go to start -->Run-->Type msconfig --> open the startup tab -->uncheck or disable all items listed here.

If you face any difficulty add more details, so we can further investigate the problem.

Does it say what program it is waiting to close? Generally this window will tell you what is not closing properly. It could be that one of your programs could just be running behind, but it could also be malware or a virus slowing down the shutdown process. We need to pinpoint what is not shutting down properly. Get back to me and we can see where to go from there

Here's how to create a shutdown shortcut on your desktop

Instead of going to the start menu, choosing shutdown, then waiting for the computer to shut all the programs down, you can create a shortcut on the desktop to do it quickly. You can create a shutdown, restart, or a logoff icon on your desktop which will work a lot quicker than using the usual buttons in the start menu.
Here's how to create a shutdown shortcut on your desktop

1. Go to your blank desktop
2. Right click on a blank space and a menu will appear
3. Choose New from the menu
4. Then choose Shortcut
5. Where it says type the location of the item type in shutdown.exe -s
6. Then press next
7. Now enter a name for your icon. Mine is called SHUTDOWN NOW
8. Press next
9. The Shutdown shortcut will be on your desktop

Different combination you can type in when creating a shortcut to shutdown, restart, or logoff.

Shutdown.exe -s

Shutsdown your computer in 30 seconds and will close all programs and ask you to save all work.

shutdown.exe -r
Restarts your computer in 30 seconds.

shutdown.exe -l
This one will logoff your computer back to the welcome screen where you will need to login again.

shutdown.exe -s -t 1
Shutsdown your computer in one second. the -t 1 tells it how long to wait. (one second in this case) You can put -t 10 or even -t 1120.

shutdown.exe -s -t 15 -c "Goodbye you idiot"
This is my favorite code. It will shutdown in 15 seconds and have a message in the box saying "Goodbye you idiot"
The -c "bla bla bla" stands for a comment.

Notes:

* to stop the computer from shutting down type shutdown /a into the run box located in the start menu..
* -f will force everything to close immediately without asking to save anything.

Tip

Auto End Tasks to Enable a Proper Shutdown

This reg file automatically ends tasks and timeouts that prevent programs from shutting down and clears the Paging File on Exit.

* Copy the following (everything in the box into notepad).

QUOTE
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"ClearpageFileatShutdown"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"AutoEndTasks"="1"

[HKEY+LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control]
"WaitToKillServiceTimeout"="1000"

* Save the file as shutdown.reg
* Double click the file to import into your registry.

NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled.

Good luck!

Shutdown problem

From the Start button, select menu/programs/accessories/system tools/system information, then click on the tools menu and select system configuration utility.

When the program opens, you'll see an advanced button on the bottom right corner. Press it.

Make sure you have disabled fast shutdown (CHECKED). Press OK/OK. If it prompts for restart, don't do it, you dont need to. Press cancel on that screen and then shutdown like you would normally.

Let me know if it works

Your computer should shut down normally now.

Computer hangs up during shutdown.

Does it hang on a certain program? Usually they'll be a square box on the screen with the information about the program, at the bottom of the box it'll give a choise of End Program or Cancel. If this is so email me back and I can give you the instructions about editing the registry, if this is not so then we need to proceed farther to find out what program Windows is hanging on.

As a systems engineer I daresay you did not use any hardware updates from the Microsoft Update page? If so roll back the drivers you downloaded

Alternatively if you identify processes that do not belong use the following program to terminate them http://majorgeeks.com/download3155.html
It is a straight-forward program called hijackthis it makes a log of the currently running processes and allows you to terminate ANY of them hence care is advised

I sincerely hope this helped

Dell model DHM DESKTOP which is stuck while plug in .

Try this out:

1. Hold down the Start (Windows Flag Key) button on your keyboard and press R

2. Type this Command : shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00

This will shutdown all running programs and shutdown windows Instantly.

Optionally you can create a desktop shortcut to do this automatically. Here is how:

1. Right click on any blank space of windows desktop -> New -> Shortcut. A “Create Shortcut” window will open.

2. In the blank, type in:
shutdown.exe -s -f -t 0
It means, shutdown and wait for Zero second. Click “Next” button for next step.

3. Type in whatever name you like in the blank. I use “Turn Off PC”. Then, click “Finish” button.

4. You are finished . A new shutdown shortcut has been created on your windows desktop!

Just click on it to shutdown.

When i turn off my computer it says END PROGRAM ccSvc.Hst When I press end program it takes forever for my computer to turn off. Also other option says press cancel and return to windows when I do this...

That file is part of Norton/Symantec security suite. I've seen that error on many systems with Norton Products.

You may be able to avoid the error by closing Norton in the system tray prior to shutdown of the system.

When you select shutdown from the menu, windows forces all running programs to shutdown, including the antivirus. For whatever reason, sometimes Norton doesn't like the shutdown request.

If you are not especially attached to the Norton product, you might try uninstalling it and trying AVG or Avast antivirus.
