My 15" Powerbook G4 screen is half blank - it sometimes shows lines or has some blank spots but it's always gone away. This time it seems stuck. What to do?

Hi There,

If you can get your laptop connected to an external monitor it will do the main troubleshooting for you. With it connected and set to display on the monitor, the 2 options below are pretty solid;

1. If the monitor shows your nomal desktop display without any distortion or lines, etc, then you can be fairly certain your LCD screen panel on the laptop is just wearing out.

2. If the monitor shows exactly what the laptop does, i.e., same exact problems, then it means that the Video chip on the logic board is about to fail and you'll have todecide whether to repair or upgrade to a newer machine.

I wish you the best.

Try replacing the inverter board. If that don't help then the next step is the back light, but replacing it is a bi.ch, so most people just replace the whole screen. Also, check that the video cable wire is not crimped/cut and securely fastened onto the logic board.

I tried to hook up my power mac g4 tower to a monitor and the screen is not coming on. It states monitor is on, now connect to computer.

Really, the only way to troubleshoot this problem is to connect your display to another computer and see if it functions; then connect your computer to another display and see if it functions. Once you have determined which unit isn't working correctly, you can proceed from there.

Display is not working no details

As you have not mentioned any model of Apple Laptop.Assuming Mac Book Pro 15 " as viewed in the picture.Connect the laptop with external display using DVI to VGA converter and power on the laptop.If the display appears in external monitor,that means the issue is with LCD Panel or may be the LVDS cable is faulty.If stil there is no display in external monitor then the issue is with Logic board. Also check weather the startup chime is appearing or not.If the startup chime is not there, replace the ram with a good one and check.If the issue is with logic board , display or Ram then you have to replace the pirticular par.

My sreen powers of my desktop

Check your pins at the connector.  I had a problem like that before and it was a student who unplugged the cable and tried to reconnect but bent 2 pins which shorted out the computer and monitor.  If that isn't noticable try connecting the monitor to another computer or laptop and if it still does the shorting issue then its in the monitor cable or board on the monitor.

No monitor works on my G4 Power Mac

Hi,
If no monitor works on your Mac, but the machine is booting, the only assumption I can draw from this is a faulty display card.
Try another display card and see if this helps.
