Question about Canon PowerShot SD550 / IXUS 750 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Ixus 750 Blurred photos shot at a distance greater than a meter.

Hi, I Have had a canon ixus 750 for 2.5 years now with problems. It has taken some great shots. Two weeks ago all the shots taken at a distance became blurry and not focused. if a photo was taken up close ie within a  meter there are no problems. At greater distances it is terrible. I have checked the manual and there is no help there. Any ideas ? Kemble

Check to see that the camera is not in "macro" mode, which would only allow focusing at a close range, but not allow focusing at beyond about 2 meters (look for the "flower" symbol to tell you that macro is activated). Could also be an out of adjustment lens, due to impact or force. Also check to make sure it's not as simple as a dirty lens. Digital cameras are more succeptable to blurry pictures from a smudged lens than film cameras were. Of course, that wouldn't explain why close shots are OK but distant ones aren't. Probably the first two suggestions.

Sounds like a stupid question, but, if the camera is operating correctly in all other ways, have you checked to make sure that you didn't smudge the lens at some point?

It wont focus and the photo is blurred

If the camera is showing a black or distorted screen when set to photo, and photos that are taken with the black screen also show up black or distorted, then this would likely be a CCD imager failure, a common occurrence for your model camera.
If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this linkfor more info.

I don't know your camera but on my fuji there is a setting that changes the "film speed". If it is set too low such as 100 or 200, it will make the exposure take too long causing blurry photos.
The higher the number, the faster it is.
Worth a try.
It should be under settings area. Also check to see if the flash is working or what I have seen sometimes, people don't realize that when shooting a picture, their finger is covering the front of the camera where the exposure meter is.

Your flash or mainboard are bad, only way to know which is to replace one and see if it starts working.

I have a canon ixus 70. When I use the zoom facility the pictures become blurred. WHY

Believe it to be a camera fault. Reason: zoom feature makes the lens extend for telephoto work, therefore, the autofocus feature should be working at any distance you set the lens for and your shots should be clear. Could be an autofocus problem or the lens and CCD are misaligned at the telephoto position. Have the camera checked by a qualified repairperson. Get an estimate first. You may want to ask this question at the Canon website also.

Blurred purple image

The doe problem go away if you bang on the side of the camera? there is a known issue with the CCD sensor on certin model cameras that after a few years the glue or somthing dries up inside the sensor and it developes a bad connection. Canon has admit they know about this problem and they will fix them free of charge and pay shipping both ways. Sometimes users can bang on the side of the camera and the camera will work properly again but not for very long. I cant see your display so im not sure if thats it or not but the problem has this purple blackish symptom. Go to the canon usa webpage and then search around for your camera model and if there is a known issue it will say on their site. Then there are ways to contact them on their site.
