DVD drive can not write disks after Win XP ...
After I install SP3 I have problems with DVD drive. When I put blank DVD-, +R or +RW it shows 0 free space. I even tried to delete the upper and lower filters, but still unresolved.

- First I thank you guys for your help! and please be patient with me. I also have the same problem with my laptop driver HL-DT-ST DVD RAM GSA-4084N, and I did the same steps; still unresolved.the driver status is Working Properly

if u could confirm me one thing? have u tried accessing the media in safe mode?confirm me this and i can help u out after this thing. because it might be a possibility that there's a problem with the SP£ itself cuz normally if u wud uninstall SP3 and the n re install SP2 then this wud solve the issue but it would b a long and hectic process i can undrstand very well so just try to access the media in safe mode. and lets see wat we can get..

- After I've installed SP3 on my rig I can't burn anything in my PC.It's no a hardware problem, it's not a problem with the software but I just can't burn my DVDs.

hi try re-instal your dvd drive or roll back SP3
you can watch dvd but not burn it check the link

in that case i would recomend that u should re install the drive. or try to update the drivers though internet. so if u could confirm me one more thing.pls tell me whats the status of the drvie i mean does it show not working in its PROPERTIES? u can check dat by going to Control Panel\System\Device Manager and under DVD/CD-ROM drives, right click on the name of ur drive,select properties and under the "Device status" field, check the status. if it states that It is not working then we'll have to install the drviers of ur drive again. if it says that It is working properly then we'll have to follow another procedure which ill check out very soon. OK?

- have u tried burning some data and then try accessing the disc?are u able to see the data? and now dat uve downgraded to sp2,could u pls do the same step i.e deleting the upper and lower filters again PROPERLY. because if u dont follow the steps sequence wise it can create a problem for the drvie. This registry thing is very case sensitive so ill tell u the steps again so kindly follow them.. u can follow this link which is the microsoft link. in this they've explained ur same issue after upgrading to vista from XP. but urs is SP2 to SP3 so the procedure is the same thinghttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us

It has nothing to do with the upper and lower filters. I have tried those multiple times. I had done almost everything that is in this forum and the drive still did not work. It is definitely XP SP3 that is causing the problem. I pulled the drive out and put it in another machine with a clean installation of XP SP1 installed. I then installed Roxio. The drive worked great. I then installed SP3 and the drive quit working again. I then uninstalled SP3 and the drive started working again. That seems to be a pretty good indication it is SP3. Two different machines that quit working when SP3 is installed? Doesn't that indicate it is SP3? I am not the only person having this issue either. Just search with Google and you will find other complaints with no solutions yet. The only common thing is XP SP3.
