    Dear vikramjit:

I have tried to access the media in the safe mode, but the DVD was not recognized. I only got the cd drive.

    Awaiting for the next step.

    Thanks.

    My device status is:
    This device is working properly.

  • Tamer79 Oct 06, 2008

Also I have deleted the upper and lower filters still unresolved.

When I am right click the drive it gives me zero blank space and zero used space. Even after trying many Cds.

  • Tamer79 Oct 07, 2008

But if my driver reads only, why when I put blank DVD-, +R or +RW it shows 0 free space and 0 used space.

  • Tamer79 Oct 07, 2008

First I thank you guys for your help! and please be patient with me. I also have the same problem with my laptop driver HL-DT-ST DVD RAM GSA-4084N, and I did the same steps; still unresolved.

the driver status is Working Properly
    Thanks

  • Tamer79 Oct 08, 2008

Yes I tried to clean it. As for the programs I am using for burning are Nero and PowerIso.

  • Tamer79 Oct 08, 2008

One last step; How can I flash the drive firmware. And as I understood from the Website you posted, it frees the driver's country.
    Thanks.

After I've installed SP3 on my rig I can't burn anything in my PC.
It's no a hardware problem, it's not a problem with the software but I just can't burn my DVDs.

I cannot write to disks - my inspiron 640m used to do it fine, but now it always says the disk is full no matter which disk I use. Help!

if u could confirm me one thing? have u tried accessing the media in safe mode?confirm me this and i can help u out after this thing. because it might be a possibility that there's a problem with the SP£ itself cuz normally if u wud uninstall SP3 and the n re install SP2 then this wud solve the issue but it would b a long and hectic process i can undrstand very well so just try to access the media in safe mode. and lets see wat we can get..

It has nothing to do with the upper and lower filters. I have tried those multiple times. I had done almost everything that is in this forum and the drive still did not work. It is definitely XP SP3 that is causing the problem. I pulled the drive out and put it in another machine with a clean installation of XP SP1 installed. I then installed Roxio. The drive worked great. I then installed SP3 and the drive quit working again. I then uninstalled SP3 and the drive started working again. That seems to be a pretty good indication it is SP3. Two different machines that quit working when SP3 is installed? Doesn't that indicate it is SP3? I am not the only person having this issue either. Just search with Google and you will find other complaints with no solutions yet. The only common thing is XP SP3.

In that case i would recomend that u should re install the drive. or try to update the drivers though internet. so if u could confirm me one more thing.pls tell me whats the status of the drvie i mean does it show not working in its PROPERTIES? u can check dat by going to Control Panel\System\Device Manager and under DVD/CD-ROM drives, right click on the name of ur drive, select properties and under the "Device status" field, check the status. if it states that It is not working then we'll have to install the drviers of ur drive again. if it says that It is working properly then we'll have to follow another procedure which ill check out very soon. OK?

have u tried burning some data and then try accessing the disc?are u able to see the data? and now dat uve downgraded to sp2,could u pls do the same step i.e deleting the upper and lower filters again PROPERLY. because if u dont follow the steps sequence wise it can create a problem for the drvie. This registry thing is very case sensitive so ill tell u the steps again so kindly follow them.. u can follow this link which is the microsoft link. in this they've explained ur same issue after upgrading to vista from XP. but urs is SP2 to SP3 so the procedure is the same thing

SP3 is the third and final service pack released for Microsoft Windows XP, and it eliminates many of the security holes that previously affected XP. While Microsoft recommends that users download SP3 using Windows Update, some users are unable to do so. However, it's easy to create a Windows XP SP3 installation CD; it requires only that you download the pack from the website and burn it to a CD-R/DVD-R using an ISO burner program.
Download the SP3 installation ISO by visiting the first link listed in the "Resources" section of this article. Save it to your Desktop. Download ImgBurn and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the installation executable for ImgBurn and click "Next." Follow the remaining onscreen prompts and click "Finish" to complete installation of ImgBurn. Insert a blank CD-R/DVD-R into your DVD drive. Open ImgBurn by going to "Start," "Programs" and "ImgBurn." Click "File," then "Browse for a source file." Navigate to your Desktop and select the SP3 ISO file. Click "Open." Click the blue "ISO to CD" button located on the bottom left of ImgBurn. The program will begin creating the Windows XP SP3 installation CD. This process may take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes to complete depending on the speed at which the CD-R/DVD-R is being burned. Click "OK" once the CD-R/DVD-R has finished burning. You've successfully created a Windows XP SP3 installation CD.

I have acer aspire 4520.I have upgraded to windows xp sp2. The empowering technology does not work.It says " the specified file is not found".I cannot find the empowering technology software...

Acer Aspire 4520 Notebook Technical Specifications:

*If upgrading after initial purchase, one or more of the memory cards provided with the system may have to be replaced with optional larger memory cards in order to achieve the maximum capacity.
Storage 120GB* hard disk drive Integrated variable-speed Super-Multi drive (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM):

5-in-1 card reader for optional MultiMediaCard™, Secure Digital card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO™ or xD-Picture Card™

Surely to load XP is a DownGrade. As this notebook is dual core, I would run Vista 64 or better still Windows 7 64.
If you wish to persist with an old system, you require SP3 for XP.That may be available from a software store but is no longer supported by Windows.
Try http://www.notebook-driver.com/laptops-information/acer-aspire-4520-notebook-technical-specifications/ for drivers that you will require to have support from Acer.

Hope that clarifies your situation.

Dell Latitude D800-Win XP- My Dvd/rw wont write

Because you lost two devices, the DVD and the wireless mini card, I believe your problem is a drivers issue.
You should make sure you do not have any Malware that is removing these drivers.
If you have access to the Internet download and install Malwarebytes. It has a quick scan that will ID any infections.
Then get the newest drivers for those two devices from Dell's support site.
Before you install the drivers, remove those devices in Control Panel.

Hi I have a Toshiba Tecra M2 laptop with Windows XP Pro SP3. My CD-RW/DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drive is not working. When I try to burn a disc, it says no recorder, or no disc in drive. Also, Windows doesn't seem to...

>> it says IDE #1 error when it boots up.

IDE #0 is your disk-drive.
IDE #1 is your CD/DVD drive.

So, take your computer to a qualified technician, to first check that the connectors (power, data) from the motherboard to the CD/DVD drive are good, and then, if necessary, to remove & replace the "dead" drive.

Its true. the Bios or HDD driver wont allow you to install Win XP on it.. This BIOS is compatible with only Win Vista. The only easy way to do it is by creating 2 partitions while installing vista. once vista is installed- install XP with Dual boot and than format the vista partition.

your in windows xp and youre try to install sp3 from a disk i take it.
either the disk is corrupt, missing files or wrong version .causing blue screen.(fatal exception)
you could try leaving the disk in and reboot ...
when in windows select run D: or what ever letter is assigned to cd drive .( start , run , type in d: and enter)
this will show files on cd/dvd. drag and drop the .exe program into a file or on desktop and try to run.if it runs the cd/dvd is the prob (corrupt, virus, missing files.) if it does run its the software incompatable or faulty(incomplete files or wrong version)
either way the cd will be useless.
you can download sp3 (free)as long as you are using a registered os.
