You may have had a power failure. The situation could be as simple as turning the stove off and on again. The 12 code means flame failure. Gas heater are nothing to mess around with if you don't understand them completely. Don't remove anything from the unit unless you are very sure what you're doing. A call to Rinnai is in order if the code keeps coming on. Good luck,
Fault code 12 means the flame lit ok but hen for some reason went out. In my experience this usually means a fault on the gas supply itself. If you are on lpg I have had many problems with gas regulators recently. If you have something else on gas like a cooktop, fire that up first, then try the log fire. If this seems to fix the fault get a gas fitter to change the regulator.
Make sure all taps and isolattion valves are fully on.
I'm have assumed this is not a new installation so the unit has worked ok before.
Does the flame stay strong after it lights. If it slowly fades then definately a gas supply problem.
If it stays strong but just shuts of with a click, then possibly a fault on the heater, check the rod the flame heats is well in the flame. Could be the electronic otherwise but very rare.
If the flame goes yellow like a candle and then shuts off you will need to check the flue or chimmney as this might be blocked..
Cheers, let me know if anything works and re-post with any more info if you are still stuck, I will keep a look out for you.
With the unit turned off, hold down on the economy button, the up arrow and down arrow all at the same time for three seconds. A number of error codes will start flashing. Copy the numbers down and repost them so we can help you. I suspect a dirty flame rod or poor gas pressure. Can you give us any info on when it fails or does it light when you turn off and back on?
An error code of 12 indicates that the front flame rod did not sense an ignition (heat). Turn the unit off and then on and see if the code reappears. Your flame rod could be bad, have carbon stuck on it, a loose wire or not getting flame to it quick enough because of a dirty burner. If your unit fires up with out an error code, I would suggest getting a good technician familiar with Rinnai in to clean it. For safety reasons, check to make sure the vent is free of obstruction or debris.
