Fix #1: Remove the batteries from the camera, wait a few minutes. Put a fresh set of batteries back in (preferably rechargeable NiMH 2500mah or better) and turn the camera on. Fix #2: Remove the batteries, then remove the memory card. Then install the new batteries, when you turn it on it should come back to life. Error E30 means you don't have a memory card installed, so turn it off, slip in the memory card and turn it on one last time. Fix #3: Insert the cameras AV cable, and turn the camera on in picture review mode. Have no idea why this would work, except that quite a few people have reported some success with it. Fix #4: Place the camera flat on its back on a table, pointed at the ceiling. Press and hold the shutter button down, and at the same time press the power-on button. The idea is that the camera will try to autofocus while the lens is extending, hopefully seating the lens barrel guide pins in their slots. Fix #5: Blow compressed air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the idea of blowing out any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens. Other variations include blowing with a hair dryer in ?no heat? setting, or sucking the gaps with a vacuum (careful with this one). Now we're entering into the realm of potentially damaging your camera in conducting the fix. There is definitely some risk here, so take care when conducting the following two fixes. Fix #6: Repeatedly tap the padded/rubber usb cover on a hard surface with the intent of dislodging any particles that may be jamming the lens. Other variations include hitting a side of the camera against the palm of your hand. A lot of people have reported success with this method. HOWEVER, there is also some potential for damaging or dislodging internal components with this method, such as unseating ribbon cables, or cracking LCD screens. Fix #7: Try forcing the lens. More people have reported success with this method than with any of the other methods. HOWEVER, there's obviously some potential for damaging your camera by using this method. Variations include gently pulling, rotating, and/or twisting the lens barrel while hitting the power button. Attempt to gently straighten or align the barrel if it's crooked or twisted. Another variation includes looking for uneven gaps around the lens barrel, and then pushing on the side of the lens barrel that has the largest gap (note pushing the lens barrel all the way in is NOT recommended as it may become stuck there). While doing any of the above, listen for a click that indicates that the lens barrel guide pins may have reseated in their guide slots. If you hear this click, immediately stop and try the camera. The following photo illustrates unseated guide pins that would cause a lens error. Hopes this may help you; Regards, VOTIT

I'm sorry to say that you'll probably be able to replace the 6MP camera with a better one for less than the cost of repair, even if attempting the repair yourself.

Does the Pentax Optio 55 take the scan disk 8gb sdhc memory card.

NO! its maximum is 2gb. Also using high capacity cards slows the recovery down between shots, stick to smaller value cards for speed of access

Pentax Camera problem

The camera has probably an internal damage due to the shock.

Try removing batteries for two minutes, this will reset it, try heping lens in and out if they are stuck.
If this simple procedures cannot fix it, the camera must be taken apart, tested and reassembled. this is a job that is better done by a technician.

If the camera does not restart, and you need service, you can call the service number listed on the user manual, or check contact page on Pentax website.

Dropped camera

try "packing" it like a deck of cards or a pack of ciggs. this will cause it to resync itself with the lens.

you might have to send it in for repair if the lens circuit is off.

Shutter problem

I have an Optio 330 too. Have had it since Feb 2002 (second owner) and taken over 5000 shots. I experienced something similar earlier this year: when i pressed the "on" button, the lens would extend, then there would be a jarring noise, the lens retracts, and the camera switches off. The camera couldnt work at all. I almost sent it in for servicing after a few days. However, I gave its base a firm bang squarely onto a thick floor rug. That solved it! The problem recurred one month later, i did the same thing, and it solved the problem again. Overall, the Optio is quite hardy, though it can get cranky with age. Hope it works for you.

My pentax optio s has fell on the floor.

It is not likely that camera drop damage will be covered under warranty. But it never hurts to ask. Regardless, you will need to contact Pentax about repairs. Repair location information should be in the documentation that came with the camera. Their website shows service centers: http://www.pentaxusa.com/service/serv_servcenter.cfm Camera drops are not uncommon. Sorry to hear yours was damaged.
