Here's what you want to do. Use Windows Media Player to re-Rip the CD's in Mp3 format. Go to Windows Media Player 11 --> Rip --> Rip Options --> Format --> Mp3 (you can get to Rip options by moving the mouse over the Rip tab, and a small black arrow will appear - click on the arrow).

Once the songs are in true mp3 format, you can then use the Sync tab in Windows Media Player to transfer the songs.

Unfortunately, many of the newer Philips players do not recognize DRM-encryption, which is why the songs would have worked in one player and not this one.

Or:

You have to get Rhapsody's Mp3 only service - I repeat, MP3 ONLY. No other level of Rhapsody service will work with the newer Philips' GoGear's - which is funny, b/c Philips co-branded with Rhapsody on the newer players. Rhapsody is not your only choice, but you must ensure that the files you are downloading are in Mp3 format.

Aha! I left out a key detail. Once the songs are in mp3 format, you will have to delete the version of the song that is on the GoGear in WMA format first, before it will load properly. To give an example, if you have loaded a song called "Nellyville" by Nelly in WMA format onto the GoGear, and then later you convert Nellyville to mp3 format, the Go Gear doesn't recognize that the new song is different, even though the file format is different. So the new changes will not be saved even though the Go Gear appears to sync correctly. Yuo have to delete the Nellyville.wma FIRST, and then sync the Nellyville.mp3 onto the player.

Also, double-check the bit rate and sampling rate of the mp3 file. Extremely high bit rates/samplign rates may not be compatible with the GoGear. You can check the spec sheet or the manual for the information on acceptable bit/sampling rates - the info is also available on Philips website.

If you still get the same message, then the GoGear is broke.

When you connect the MP3 player to yourcomputer with the supplied USB cable then computer detects the player as anexternal storage device or a Removable disk, you can then view the folder onyour MP3 player. Open the music folder and create a new folder on the playerexactly the same way you create a folder on your computer's hard drive. Toorganise your music, make a folder name with the name of the music album andplace the album's MP3 files in this folder, then copy the mp3 files from thecomputer into this folder.
You will then be able to select the music you want to play by the music albumfolder. To delete a filefrom your MP3 player, connect the supplied USB cable to your player and thenplug it into the USB port of your computer.
The computer will detect your player then click on this device to view thefiles, you can then click on the music file to highlight the file and thenpress the Del key to delete the file off your MP3 player. Check the specification of your MP3 player to determine thetype of video file format it uses. Most common video files that MP3 players use are, AVI andWMV, there may be others such as FLV, MOV and DivX. If your player cannot play a video then it is anincompatible video file format, then you need to convert that video file to aformat that your MP3 player uses. Make sure that there is available memory. If there is, then you will need to do a firmware upgrade and reload the songs onto the player. If you already have the latest firmware, then you will need to reformat the player either in Windows Media Player or the computer. If that fails, use the repair function in the Philips Device Manager.
