Question about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router

1 Answer

WGT624v2 UPnP not being recognized by Mac

I have a Mac laptop G4 running OS 10.5.4.  I am attempting to access "Back to My Mac" I turn on "Back to My Mac" and I get the message  "Back to My Mac isn't working properly because it requires a router that supports NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP).  Make sure your router supports one of these protocols and that it is enabled." I have upgraded the firmware on the router to the latest and have turned the UPnP off and back on again.  I have reset the router and it still is not recognized.

Im using a 2Wire Gateway DSL connected via ethernet to a Mac G4, I also have a laptop running windows vista and it has strong wi-fi connection, sending packets at optimal levels and speed. BUT Problem

Vista has a well known flaw of not allowing you to easily change access rights after selecting "public network" in the initial network connection screens. The easiest fix is to change the name of your wifi access point, reconnect, and be absolutely certain to select "home network" when the prompt comes up.

The best solution however is to ditch that crummy excuse for an operating system and upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.

Belkin Wireless N router/Embarq 660 modem/No internet

Make sure your physical connection is correct. From the modem, the ethernet cable should plugged in to the Internet/WAN port of the router. And your computer to port 1. Access the setup page of the router again and Enable the MAC Address Clone setting. Clone the MAC Address of your PC there then power cycle the router and modem. You should be all set.

Connectivity issue router to panassonic wireless camera

If your camera does not support encryption protection then that is a problem beause it allows unauthorised people to access your wireless access point, Internet and computers on your LAN.
There is a couple of things you can do but it it is not perfect.
1. Change youe SSID to something other that the default name.
2. Make sure you put a password on your admin setup
3. Turn off SSID broadcast.
4. Set up MAC address filtering on your access point and only allow MAC address of only your devices/wireless adapter cards to communicate with your wireless access point.

The UPnP refers to plug & play USB connection for transferring images to the computer.

The best way to avoid not having to turn off encryption is to transfer your photos by the camera cable or remove the memory card and insert it into a USB memory card reader and connect it to your computer.

MacBook not connecting to DIR-655 Router

My solution was that I changed the wireless mode from "B,G and N" to just "B and G," and then it worked fine.

Ok, I am pretty sure that they do not make the software for Mac. If you look on the CD "Designed For ......" Check and see if that is your problem. Then contact Linksys to see if there is a Mac version of the software!

Can this be used with a MAC?

Any router will work, TCP/IP is a network standard, definately double check the cables. Your DSL modem is usually 192.168.254.254. and the router is usually 192.168.1.1. Check your documentation for the default IP. Once you know it type it in to the broswer in your Mac. Before doing so connect with an ethernet cable, purchase a new one if necessary. Connect from the <--> labeled port on the mac, or ethernet port. These wires are not like phone lines, they have 8 wires instead of 4/6. The router usually has ports on the back labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, and WAN. the 1-4 ports are LAN and that is also labeled on there. Plug the mac into port 1 and any other computers in after you get internet. once the physical connection is recognized. Go to your browser in the mac and proceed. if you get a web based router configuration page your router is working, then make the WAN connection to the ethernet port on the back of the dsl mode. Be sure your cables are good. Also go to your control panel and make sure your internet is enabled in your network section.

Temporary connection loss

The issue is now resolved. I found the solution by trawling through the 2wire troubleshooting website articles...
Here's how I fixed mine:
1) open the Management and Diagnostic Console by entering 192.168.1.254/mdc in the address line in your web browser.
2) click on 'Configure' under the heading 'Local Network' on the left column.
3) change the 'set DHCP lease time' to 999hours (instead of 24hours) - this stops the router from resetting itself every day.
4) click on 'wireless' under 'Local Network' in the left column again.
5) change the 'power setting' to 10 - ie maximum - this boosts the wireless signal, which means it's less likely to be dropped.

& that did the trick. Been working continuously now for the last month and a half! :))
