Question about Ricoh Aficio CL3500N Laser Printer

1 Answer

Print images look like a rainbow, going from blue to red to blue to red etc.

I replaced the photo color unit on my Ricoh CL3500N printer and your were right, the lines disappeared. I hadn't printed anything with a lot of color, today when I tried to print out a flyer with my artwork all the color images go from red to blue to red to blue etc etc. The images is correct but the color isn't. I read my manual and have done everything it says. When I try the calibration the color scale 3/3 (for example) one time is a pinkish grey and the next time I try it the 3/3 is a bluish grey. I'm lost at this point. I did notice there is a teeny tiny black black line about 1" from the left edge so I think I need to replace the black photo unit??? Thank you in advance for everything. I am having the same problem. I have just replaced the color PCU, and the black PCU. I only got about 300 prints out when I started to get the rainbow blotches. So I called my supplier and they replaced the color PCU as a defect. I got about another 300 when the blotches came back. The unit only has 22,000 prints on it. It should not need anything else. I have done both the auto-calibrate, the manual-calibrate, I have vacuumed dust and toner from it, I have done the condensed air. What is wrong with this printer?
If I remove the PCU units and reseat them the problem goes away for about 10 prints.

Did you do a manual or automatic color registration adjustment?

    1. This step depends on whether you are using [Automatic Color Adjustment] or [Manual Color Adjustment]

    2. [-] For [Automatic Color Adjustment] ...

      1. clear the [User Settings] checkbox,

      2. choose from one of the four available document types that best matches the type of document that you want to print (note: clicking any of the four types will cause an explanation of that type to be displayed below),

      3. view a list of the printer settings at any time by clicking [Print Quality Summary].

    • [-] For [Manual Color Adjustment] ...

      1. select the [User Settings] tab,

      2. select a [User Setting] from the list,

      3. click the [Change User Settings] key to enter the User Settings submenu,

      4. click the [Balance Adjustments] tab,

      5. use the sliders to adjust color parameters (the image to the left of the sliders will change to reflect your new settings),

      6. click [OK] when you have finished.

    1. Click [OK] to exit from the Printer Driver, then close the Printers List box.

Faded streaks for only blak color on Ricoh 3500N laser printer

Your toner cartridge is probably getting low. Toner is actually a powder, and it can get settled during shipments, bringing it home, etc etc. Take out the black toner and give it a gentle side-to-side shake a few times and pop it back in.
That should help.

Error code: color registration error and ultra-light, smudged printing on right side of paper

have you replaced all of the consumables?
drums X2 black and color
developer units X4 CMYK
transfer imaging belt X1
Fuser unit X1
if the unit has over 60k prints it will need to have these items replaced and once that is done the color registration will come back inline.

Ricoh CL3500N - not printing all characters on the page

It might be a print driver problem. I think there several different drivers. Go to and download all the drivers for the operating system you are using and try them. If there is a rpcs driver that might be your best bet.

Thought I would ask you, since u have answered Ricoh CL3500N

According to the maintenance manual, broken lines are caused by the "dithering" setting. Also there is an in depth color calibration process you can execute. Have you checked the PCU unit?

Here is the maintenance manual:

You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
