Question about GE 32GT660 32" TV

1 Answer

Is my TV broken or is my house haunted !!!

After my TV is turned on 5-60 minutes it will cycle the power and when it starts it continues. I turned the tv on and disconnected the switch board harness (7 wire (( 6 white 1 blue)) white connector) and the tv stays on until I disconnect the power cord from the wall. I was thinking it might be the remote input so i cut the blue wire and the white wire on the opposite side, however that didnt fix it. I am leaning to a shorted power swich??? I am and aircraft electrician and can use a meter but not much of a troubleshooter on a circuit board. I can read a schamatic and know the basics however not a tv repair man. LOL..... Any ideas??

Hello, I wish I could work on \ ride in a FA-!8 !!! I've repaired tv's for a long time and have never seen the switch pcb cause a set to shutdown after it is running. IR receivers very rarely go bad and when they do they just don't work i.e. no response to remote control signal. If the switch pcb has a switch that is stuck in the pushed in position ( because of a drink spill ) the set will not power on in the first place. Those 2 problems (besides a worn out switch) are the only problems I've seen with the switch (pwr\vol\ch) pcb. I think it was just a coincidence that the set stayed on for you when you disconnected the switch pcb.
Now that I've said what it isn't I should FINALLY tell you what I think it is. I tend to run on and on sometimes. Anyway, you have a unit that is NOTORIUS for having bad high voltage transformers or flybacks as the old tv guys call them. I'm not old... yet!! The transformer will start to draw more current than it should and the protection circuit that monitors that current will activate and the microprocessor will shut the unit down.
I could be wrong ,of course, but that's all I can say without seeing the unit and that is very common for your set. You can get an inexpensive flyback for your set through or you can get an expensive GE\RCA part. Asti Flybacks are just as good...I'd say better ...GE\RCA's go bad!!! Good Luck! If you want help trouble-shooting, get your manual free by googling your model # and the words " free schematic download " and I can help. I see your email address. Just come back here and let me know... I will email you from my mailbox. I can't list it here. Once again, Good Luck!

Is the whaley haunting true

There is of course a Whaley House (but not the one seen in the movie), and Life Magazine called it "the most haunted house in America".

Whether it is real from that point, well, do you believe in ghosts?

Just replaced lamp/housing and now tv turns off after 2 minutes of being on. Green light flashes continually(about 30 sec.) then tv turns back on and the cycle continues. The tv is a sony bravia...

Strange situation, have you tried unplugging it for a few minutes and letting the TV cool. I have a older 2006 Sony SXRD rear projection and it takes forever to turn back on if you shut it off then turn it back on. Check this link and maybe its giving you a blinking code. Try counting the number of blinks. Hope this helps.

Computer runs for 2 - 3 minutes then powers off

You most likely have a heat related issue. Try removing the cover and checking the inside of your system. If it looks like a haunted house in there, then grab a can of compressed air and start some spring cleaning. Enough dust can accumulate in your system to preven the heat dissipation points to work correctly. Anything past this would warrant a service call from a local tech in order to replace broken fans and or heat sinks.

TV started cycling through cable TV input channels (it changes the input on it's own) and will not turn off. If unplugged >10 minutes and plugged back in, it powers on automatically and continues...

go to menu settings and reset the tv back to factory default
note this will also reset any of your customize features such as clock color fave channels

My tv cycles off and on ,by itself.

Try a power drain to see if can keep the TV on consistently:
1. Unplug the product's power cable so the device is not grounded to the house. 2. Press and HOLD the product's own power button for 1 minute to drain the capacitors. 3. Plug the product back into a wall outlet and try to turn it on.
Note: This procedure works with battery operated devices as well so remove the batteries and hold down it's power button.  Electricity can remain in capacitors and on circuit boards enough to prevent normal functionality. By clearing the residue electricity, your product will have a fresh start and many times this will resolve a buggy or non-responsive device that appears to be dead.
If the TV continues to turn off and on after this, it would appear that there is an issue with the TV's power supply as it may be on it's last legs.

Insignia PC speakers - give a weird static feedback noise

I'm going to vote for the haunted option.

Sound like you have some noise on your power lines. This can be caused from many different things. Normaly it is a motor going bad or a compressor starting up. From the AC unit or refrigerator.

See if you can correspond the noise to anything else happening in the house. Fridge starting up, AC or heat cycling on...etc.

It may be that you just have speakers and a cordless phone going bad at the same time.

It might just be Casper the friendly ghost playing tricks... ha!

Maytag Neptune MDE7500AYW - Won't start - Message says "A power failure..

I had the same problem. It turned out a power transformer in the neighborhood had gone bad. I found it by checking power at the receptacles in the house and we weren't getting proper voltage throughout the house. We had enough power in the house to power lights, the TV, coffee maker etc. but not enough for the dryer. I called the power company and they came out to do a check. At first they said there was a wiring problem with the house until all the neighbors started coming over after seeing their vehicle and saying they were having problems. So maybe you aren't getting proper power to the unit.

Good luck. Hope this fixes your problem.

TV Cycles Power ON and OFF.... Is my house haunted or Just have a broken TV.....

I'd say you're right on track. You'll probably have to replace the board. I doubt you can get replacement parts even if you know exactly what it is. I know it sucks but that's the way the industry is today. Good luck.
