ELMOTOR Error from KVH TracVision L2 startup - no satelllite found

KVH L2 is mounting on a motor coach - worked fine 2 weeks ago - now will not find satellites ... symptoms follow;

With RCA receiver with low speed data port ... initializes and then give me a "ELMOTOR ERROR" - never finds a satellite + Elevation motor is moving dish between both limits with no obvious problems ...

With DirecTV receiver ... will not accept a "Restore to Factory Defaults" action (Sat Select + Power on), Power on gives 1 bright flash then 4 short dim, then 1 bright, then 5 short dim flashes -- cycles thru this 3 times then goes to sleep - never finds a satellite ...

I don't think the problem is with the receiver, but the dish which is mounted on the roof of our coach. The fact that I cannot "reset to factory defaults" when connected to the DirecTV receiver and receive the ELMOTOR ERROR when connected to the RCA receiver suggest to me that something is wrong with the KVH dish and not the receiver ... I get no signal with either receiver ...

Do you have anyone that is familiar with the KVH L2 dish, and knows how to troubleshoot the dish if I hookup a laptop to the maintenance port?

SOURCE: Humax 5400 satellite receiver ,power suppl problem

Dear Robert...

I think the problem with my humax 5400z is similar to yours.

Both 5400 & 5400z have the same power supply unit.

I just solved it this evening by changing C9.

It's a 1500 μF 10V electrolytic capacitor. Be careful not to reverse the polarity my friend.

If you have problems to find the capacitor just e-mail me at rel@link.net and I'll send you pics showing the location of that C9 capacitor on tthe psu board.

Hope this could help you.

Good luck.

I have enjoyed my radio for about 2 years. For about two weeks I get the message"loading" on my radio. It does not happen all the time, but it seems like it is happening more frequently. It will...

Just a few weeks ago Sirius XM changed there channels. That might have been one problem. But it shouldn't be loading all the time. It might be losing the channels and have to reload the channels.

XM Receiver: When hooked up to the home kit it will show antenna and will not pick up a signal. When hooked into the car jack it works ok. I replaced the receiver mount about 3 weeks ago and it worked ok...

Hi Kldeaton,

If you can do it, try your car mount in the house, as long as you can supply power via the car plug (12-volts DC). If it does the same thing as the home kit, then you more than likely have an intermittent antenna connection on your home antenna.

Also, check the location of your antenna vs any obstructions, such as trees. You may have the reception worked out so that you have signal from the antenna, but it is "breaking up" from a connector or cable short or open condition. Check the coax for any chaffing also. Let me know if you need more help. Thanks.

Stiletto 2: Device works, but no radio

I have seen the same problem. If I remove the battery and then reinsert it, the radio re-initializes and works fine. For some reason it appears that the Satellite reception gets disabled. Taking the battery out and in seems to reboot the radio.

Sirius Stiletto 2 Problem

That's one of several problems my Stiletto 2 has. The only solution I've found is to "reboot" the unit. You'll have to remove the unit from the cradle, pop the back off, and remove the battery for a few seconds. Then put everything back together and power it up. It will take a minute or two, but once it reboots it should be fine.

I have a starmate2 replay and what has happened is i turn it on and it stay on the title screen thats it.None of the buttons will work on it only the power button to shut it off. Please help

Three months ago I had the same problem. My wife paid over $300 for the radio, the portable boom-box and subscription less than 2 years ago.
Sirius offered no help or discount on a new radio. Guess they follow the Microsoft doctrine because they suggested I upgrade to a new radio.

Anyhow, feeling frustrated, I took the receiver apart, thinking that a stray voltage on an IC ping maybe causing the problem. It was only a guess. I don't even have a wiring diagram At any rate, once I had it apart, I used a small flathead screw driver and drug it (lightly) across all IC pins, possibly in an effort to drain the voltage. Please do this in a low static area.

When I put everything back together, the receiver worked. It's been working good the up until about 2 weeks ago, when the same problem began again. I just finished the same process and the receiver is working again.

I don't advocate this for anyone who doesn't know how to handle electronics.

I'm just very disappointed in Sirius for not admitting the problem and providing no discount for a newer model. I have a $10 clock radio that's 9 years old. Guess what, I don't have to take it apart every three months to keep it working.

Acquiring signal only on display

If under warranty get a replacement. If not, you are beat, they are dead when they stop getting signal and you have tried different antenna. It's sad but true.

Sportster 4 not working...

I had the same issue. This is what Sirius calls a "Frozen Unit". There is no bypass, unfortunately, and it must be returned.

I had mine for 3 days and it froze on the Sirius Logo screen when booting up. If you bought the unit from Sirius, you must contact their E-Commerce department. If bought from a retailer, take it back to the store.

Sorry, mate.
