Same problem, after you hit eject is pops out and never opens up, to the right of the "push" button is an arm with a spring, pushing it back will open that side, on the left side is a pin with an arm you can move the arm back the pin moves and the other side will open as well, wont fix the problem but will get you your tape back. I have a very upset wife, we had a jvc mini DV went out one winter change in temp killed it instantly, now our canon has sat a few years and wont work either,
we bought a flip video, it works.
Please try this. I had a similar problem last few days with my ZR60. The problem I had was that the tape won't eject and on repeated attempts to eject it would eject as if it had a mind of its own. I
was messing with it a little bit and realized that the door was not
opening fully. Being a delicate item I didn't realize that I was not
fully opening the door may be because there was a little friction in
the pivot pins or what ever. Try to gently swing the door open fully and see if it helps. Since I discovered this problem I tried 10-12 times, and every time it would eject the tape and load it. I was almost going to give up this camcorder last night thank GOD, I am able to use it. Good Luck to you.

Its better if you get it serviced by an authorized service center,If its not in warranty then try for any local mechanic. If you try to manually open it there is a very possible chance of any kind of damage.
Your camera appears slightly older than mine so I will do my best for you. Have you tried ejecting the tape with the power off? If I have problems I slide the eject button when the camera is off but plugged in and the tape can be ejected. I suspect the tape mechanism is in trouble. When a tape stuck in mine I had to literally force the cover open. But this is a last resort.
Give my suggestion a try and apologies if you have already tried that...
It could be a couple of different issues. These things could help.
(1) Power OFF the camera, remove battery then replace the battery, power up the cam and try to eject tape again. Nothing? try...
(2) Gently press inward on the tape cover with both thumbs a few times. Then, while pressing gently inward with one hand, press the release/eject-tape function until you hear a click or release sound. Then, if it doesn't open automatically, gently "help" open the hatch.
If it remains stuck, after follwing these steps a few times it would be my guess that perhaps the camera has been dropped in a way that jammed the mechanism controlling the eject function.
TIPS that may prevent having eject problems: When loading tape, be sure to insert the tape correctly and slowly, makeing sure the tape is placed properly. Gently press on the specific location indicated to close the tape holder, and wait for the tape to "seat" properly before closing any other part of the tape cover or hatch mechanism. Taking a few extra seconds when loading the tape can save extended frustration later.
Mechanism issue....could anything from a bad gear to bad capstan motor. This would have to be repaired by an experienced technician. <a href="http://www.austintelstarservices.com">www.austintelstarservices.com</a>
I got the tape to eject by removing the battery from the camcorder, putting it back on so that the tape would go back inside the camera. Then I had the tape eject again. Several times the tape would not be ejected but I repeated my steps until the camera released the tape.

This is a tape transport problem and is expensive to fix. Unless you know a cheap tech, it's time for a new one. Be patient loading and unloading tapes. This is usually what causes this problem. The Yellow warning sticker is REALLY important. Another important item is to always use the same brand of tape because switching tapes causes a gummy build-up the makes tapes get caught in the machine. Videoteacher
* The most frequent cause of this type situation is not having a power source attached, or a depleted battery pack.
* Once the power source is available, some models require manually unlatching and opening a cover.
* When the cover is fully open, the cassette will eject automatically after a few seconds.
* If the tape still will not eject, seek assistance from a Service Facility because you need a special tool to remove the tape without causing further damage.
Loading unit problem is a common mechanical problem in camcorders. To remedy the problem, trained tech need to disassemble the mechanical system around the loading and replace few broken gears (plastics) and adjust it. Repair cost may run close to half of the new camcorder. If you really got to repair this camera for some sentimental reason or for special needs otherwise better to invest the repair charge into a new camcorder.
The mechanism got stuck.
Open the cassette compartment screws and apply external DC to the Power input and eject the tape.
If this is not possible refer to a skilled technician.
