Its most likely one of three causes:
1. Dirty lens - Use a lens cleaner disk.
2. Scratched lens or failed optical assembly - The optical assembly will have to replaced. If this is the case, it would be cheaper to simply buy a new DVD player, as parts and repair costs would be too high to justify a repair.
3. Failed motor - This is preventing the disk from spinning, and hence cannot be read. This is a cheaper fix, but would still need to be taken to a service center for repairs.

Hope that helps!

HI

You can download the owners/users manual from the Panasonic website. But you do need the model number.

It is not unusual for dvd players to quit reading. It is caused by either the laser diode in the optical pickup assembly or the digital decoder circuits becoming defective. Either repair is more costly than just buying a new dvd player.

Does it still play CDs okey? If so, that could mean the internal electronics is okey but the laser optics are not working satisfactory for dvd. The laser beam must be much stronger for reading a dvd disc compared with a music CD disc, for example. And this could mean the laser diode has become weak and will read music CDs, but not dvds. The cost of replacing the laser diode is about $100! You can buy a new dvd player for $28 and up.

Try doing this steps:
From the remote control:
SETUP
Scroll left or right to the PREFERNCES menu.
Scroll down to the bottom until DEFAULT is highlighted.
Hit the PLAY button in the remote while RESTORE or RESET is highlighted.
The DVD player was reset back to factory settings within 10 seconds.

If still not wrking after that the lens of this player may be bad already and needs a replacement...

Have you tried resetting the power? Unplug the power cord. Hold down the power button for 10seconds. Then try it again.

The lens which reads the dvd must have gone faulty.

try to clean the area where you place the dvd disk.

  • mastermind10 Oct 06, 2008

also try another dvd in the same device.if the same problem then try the same dvd in the another device if you can arrange one to check .that will give u a better idea at where the problem lies.

  • mastermind10 Oct 06, 2008

check whether you get any noise of dvd spinning in the device or not .if you r not getting any spinning noise when you insert thr dvd that means the motor which spins the dvd is gone faulty.you have to get it replaced.and if it spins then you can indicate that the problem is with the lens.try cleaning the lens.

  • mastermind10 Oct 06, 2008

if still does not weork then its the problem of dust particles setteled on the lens internally which cannot be cleaned without opening the device.and for that taking it to the service center is a better option.asd they will service the whole device properly and technically .to make it proper.

this is a common problem faced by many clients and gets solved after servicing and cleaning.

  • mastermind10 Oct 06, 2008

that only i m explaning you my friend that the lens is not able to read the disc which you load.and so you r getting this problem.and about the cleaning cd you inserted that only cleans the device if the dust particles setteled in the upper area where you load the disc, that cannot clean the device internall.that should be done manually.

  • mastermind10 Oct 06, 2008

what i want to explain is the lens is the eye of the device which reads the disc if any dust setteled on the eye how can the device read the disc.and so it is not loading the disc.for example if you close the eyes how can you read any thing.in the same way the thin glass lens in the device should be clean and not blocked by any dust particles.

Dvd player won't read the dvd and displaying'no disc'

I had this same problem with my Apex AD-500W DVD Player. I decided since everyone said the player basically needed to be replaced it wouldn't hurt to go through the buttons on the remote just to try and figure it out......I DID!!!! I turned on my DVD Player, inserted a disc, turned on my tv and then hit the SYSTEM Button right below the power button until the screen said MULTI and the machine started working perfectly. There are 3 settings in that button, PAL which made my screen go crazy, NTSC ( i have no clue) and MULTI(this one made it work)! Hope it also works for all of you!!!
