Re: picture and text extend beyond screen
Your tv needs to be put into service mode with the original Sony remote control and then set the vertical\horizontal size parameter to the correct values and then burn the new settings to memory Google " sony tv service mode " and you should find the procedure. Good Luck! Write back if you have problems. barneyluc

U have a CRT tube analoge standard tv,this feature will not work for a CRT analoge standard tv.Zoom in and out, picture sizes like 480,720 and 1080.The analoge tv can't get the tv signal ranges beyond 480i that why u have black sides bars picture,if u have a HD TV like a LCD tv or Plasma tv,than the Zooming in feature will works.
If it's very wide, can't see ends of graphics and etc. on screen then it has a defect. It's called over-scanning. That is not an adjustment. It's likely an internal problem. That means a shop repair. It doesn't normally happen with digital sets. If your TV is more than ten years old it's time for a new one. If it's less you need to get an estimate for the repair. It can be repaired but it's usually not feasible with older sets due to the cost of the repairs. You will be better off buying a new set if it's an older one.
Yes there is but you have to get into the service menu and its a risky business to go there without knowledge of these adjustment. In any case these adjust would be called vsize, vpos.Any local repairman should be able to fix that in 5mins. good luck
Your screen somehow got switched to theatre/cinema mode. There is a setting on the remote that attributes to aspect ratio. Sometimes it is called "ASPECT". Look for it, and press it until your original screen aspect shows.
There should be a vertical height adjustment control potentiometer near the vertical output IC on the right side of the PC board near the front section of the TV that can be adjusted to shrink the picture vertically. Be careful not to short anything out or getting yourself shocked in the process if you decide to try to adjust it yourself. Good luck. This chassis has also been known to have bad solder connections in that area also, so don't man-handle the printed circuit board roughly.
