Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP90 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

GE gas stove

I have a GE gas stove with oven problem. It will not heat food evenly and it seems that heat is escaping (almost feels like it is blowing) from the area right underneath the digital controls on the top of the stove. I don't know if this escaping heat is related but never noticed it before. Also before you could set the oven to the exact time stated on food cooking directions and it would come out perfect.. Now you have to cook extra time and food is not cooking evenly. Help!!!

Sounds like a bad bake ignitor(uneven heat, long cook times, long preheat times, perhaps even gas smell while cooking)as far as the heat from under the clock assy thats the normal vent( nedds to release heat somewhere, not a problem

pull out the racks and remove the bottom floor of the oven, turn it on bake,if the ignitor doesn't glow most likely it's bad,if it does glow and it doesn't ignite within 40 to 60 seconds the ignitor is bad.even though it glows doesn't mean it's good,it works by amps.it takes 3.2 amps.for a flat ignitor to open the gas valve and 2.5 amps for a round ignitor to open the gas valve.

Your posted model is for an electric stove. Your question pertains to a gas stove. 2 things to look for: The most common of which is a weak ignitor. The second most common being a faulty sensor. Since you made no mention of a fault code I am going to assume the problem is the ignitor. For ignition to occur the gas safety valve has to release the gas to the burner. In order to do it the resistance on the ignitor must change. Over time the ignitor gets weak. One way to tell is by looking at it. It should be so bright you cannot stare at it very long. If it appears to be a dim orange AND you can bump the stove and sometimes get ignition then replace that ignitor.

We have a GE gas oven/stove top and the stove top is lighting as well as the broiler but we can not get the oven to heat up. What do you suggest we try?

i just moved and our stove in the new place doesnt bake things right. it seems that the top coil doesnt come on. its very difficult to bake anything. seems to come up to temp for pre heating, but only the bottom coil comes on. If you put it on broil, then the top coil gets hot. that works fine. tired of burning pizzas and biscuits. can anyone help with a cheap fix? dont have alot of cash.

GE Gas Range Over Won't Heat

Hello, Yes this is going to be the bake igniter. If you remove the lower panel in the oven you will see the bake igniter. It may still be working when you switch on the oven but it is not getting up to the correct temp in order to ignite the gas. Replace the igniter and you will be all set. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Good Luck! Mike

With a gas range, I wouldn't fool with it. Get a service man out there now! Gas stoves are great untill they malfuntion and need a qualified service person to check it out. It's cheep insurance if there is a gas leek causing the problem. The alternitive-------!
