Play Button doesn't work. all others do. opened the unit up for a visual check and all seems fine. any ideas what it could be?

Martin:

You don't specify what receiver or TV you have, or how you have them joined. Do you mean that the play button on the remote or on the receiver doesn't work? Or both? You "opened up" what? The remote or the receiver? Bad idea, either way. Try this: unplug the receiver and take the batteries out of the remote. If there is a DVD in the receiver, take it out. Have a beer. Come back 20 minutes later and plug everything back in. Put the batteries back in the remote and reprogram the code. See what happens then after you put a DVD back in the receiver. If that doesn't get you up and running, I don't know what to tell you. . .

Why could my volume knob be stuck on max volume and not adjusting?

There is probably grease or dirt on the contacts inside the unit. Here's a video that shows you how to fix it:

I have a Sony STR-DE 597 reciever. I have been using it fine for a few years with no problems and it sounded great. I turn the unit on recently and a message was displayed on the unit that said PROTECT....

Protect will usually show up if the receiver was turned up too loud to the point where the speakers will crackle, the receiver will switch to protect to not damage anything. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and check all the audio wiring in the back to make sure everything is plugged in good and tight and no loose cables or stray pieces of copper audio wire and plug it back in.

I bought a Denon AVR 791 receiver two months ago, work great, sound great with my Definitive Technology Speakers but 3 days ago while I was watching a movie on my PS3 the receiver turned off on the higher...

Clearly, it thinks you're overdriving it.

Blinking Power Indicator every 2 seconds means the internal temperature is high. (Page 76 of the manual)

Every half-second - speaker impedance too low.

Consider the load presented by the speakers and what their minimum impedance might be.

Check for loose speaker wires.

Yamaha RX-V750 wont power up

Check the fuse. You might have had a power surge which blew a fuse. If not, check the fuse for the socket. Reset the fuses for that socket. If it still doesn't work, it sounds like the internal boards got fried, or the power supply got fried. The power supply is replaceable, but we don't know if it is the power supply. To check, connect a voltage meter to the power supply.

Something like this happened to me. I found a new kenwood stereo next to the dumpsters, stickers and all still on it, plugged it in, it worked, shut it off to plug in a speaker, didn't turn back on, months later after leaving it plugged in, turned on, I used it, then shut it off for the night, in the morning the standby light was still on, tried turning it on, but it wouldn't for some reason, unplugged it, then the light wouldn't come on, it was once again sitting on a shelf as a paperweight, one day it randomly came on again, and now it 100% works, and I use it as an amp for my RE audio subwoofer, and its worked great since! The reason this kinda applies to you is because its kinda simmilar what happened to you. Just leave it plugged in, and maybe sometime you will walk by it noticing it works.

Receiver problem

Try this, it may work for you.

1.)Plug the unit into your mains voltage.
2.)Depress the enter and advanced surround buttons (on the front panel of receiver) at the same time for
at least 2 seconds, you should hear the relay tick and front panel should light up.

Stuck on standby

Unit is in protect mode there are a few problems that can trigger protect mode the most common is blown channel (shorted outputs). Sometimes one of the 15v regulators may go bad causing imbalance of supplys triggering protect mode. Also sometimes a bad solder connection could cause unit to go into protect also. I work for Denon authorzied repair center in Michigan if your nearby and Shipping to Michigan is economical let me know kstahl65@att.net

Kenwood VR-6070 no sound?

I sent my unit to the repair shop back in January, in two weeks they diagnosed the problem as cold solder joints and a few bad capacitors. about a month later it started doing the same thing again - so in March of 08 I sent it back and they still have it to this day. I've contacted them and they say their repair guy has invented some new curse words for it.. but has not yet repaired the problem.

He has said that he's replaced the face unit and it did not fix the problem.

After it was repaired the first time, the unit would produce sound immediately after being turned on... a week later, i had to set a pillow over the vent holes to make the unit heat up a bit before it would produce sound.
