The light goes on to indicate that the shift lock is engaged, so all letter type in upper case (capital) letters, or on machines with "spell check" to indicate a mis-spelled word. It should go out when you hit eithor left or right shift keys, correct the mis-spelled word or just continue typing.
If it just stays on all the time no matter what you do, there is a problem with the main board.

The lock button is blinking green and won't type. I'm sure there is a code to unlock, but I don't know what it is. Help??

This usually means that it didn't complete it's power on cycle. Try removing the ribbon and lift off and printwheel, check P/W for bent or broken spokes, replace P/W and try it with out Ribbon and L/O.

The letter wheel does not hold its position

Check for bent or broken spokes on the P/W or the correction tape is tangled in the wheel.

Could be the printhead is at the right margin. But, if you hit the return key and nothing happins, it could be a bad board, power supply or transport motor. When you turn the machine on, does the printhead move all the way to the left, spin the printwheel and move to a set position?

If your WW3 has batteries it must have spell check or printer options there is a small door on the top right of the machine.
