You will need a software for video communication. I recommend installing Skype on both computers. If cameras are working properly, you should be able to communicate with your granddaughter.

You can download Skype here.

Web cams and microphone

Hi, First I would suggest you get a Microsoft Life Cam VX-3000 as it will install the easiest and has a mic built in. Then I would suggest you and your family download SKYPE as it is FREE to talk on using the computer. It allows oyou to connect with several family members. Only have to pay if you telephone anyone from the computer using Skype.
So download SKYPE from this site: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/beta/
and follow these instruction to setup your voice/video.
Normal 0 After you install Skype and have it operational with you ID. Go to "TOOLS", click on "OPTIONS," Then go to "Audio Settings" and click on it. Make sure both the Microphone and Speaker's are correctly chosen. Then "make a free test call." Wait till the voice tells you to record. Then when finished talking wait for the test persons voice to insure your audio transmission is working. Then go back to options and test your video settings. Click on Video Settings and proceed to set up you video camera. Also, you can Visit this site for additional information to setup video.

Voice delay and low picture pixels

The problem is lack of bandwith of the receiving signal from your daughter. The Skype server is located in the UK and all video and audio data signals go to and from the Skype UK server before it goes to you and your daughter. This lack of bandwith causes the video image to break up and a delays in audio just like a weak high definition signals to your digital television.
You can see your own video and hear your own audio from your WEB cam clearly, because the video and audio data does not have to go to the UK and back again, also your satillite connection is probably not as fast as a cable broadband connection. Your daughter may also experiencing the same video and audio problems.
Video data contains a lot more information than the audio data. Therefore there are a couple of things you can do to improve the situation :-
Get your daughter to and possible you as well (if she is also experiencing break up of video and audio), to reduce the video image size from 640X480 to 320X240 resolution.
If the video is still a problem then turn off the video all together and only communicate by audio, this will reduce the amount of data being transmitted and should give you a clear/clean audio.

No.

Is's ok to have only one cam.

You can see the video from your oposite if they have a cam.
Or if only you have a cam the other party should be able to see you.
