Question about GPS

Shinco PNA GM-408

I have a problem with my shinco ( model: GM-408 ) personal navigation system. I am in Sydney, Australia and the thing worked fine for the last year or so. Anyway the other day I saw on the screen what looked like an update to my software with a EULA and an agree button. I assumed it was doing the update through the GPS and I touched the agree button and it went to another window telling me about the hazards of operating the GPS whilst driving with a box which I ticked so this message wouldn't come up again. When I pressed on the "next" button I was taken to the map screen and it showed I was in Melbourne, which is 1000k away from Sydney. So now my satellites aren't showing and I cannot use the GPS, but everything else works fine, just the most important thing doesn't ( the GPS navigation cause no satellites). I tried resetting the unit but no joy. I don't have the Destinator programme which it uses to reinstall as I feel it's a software problem, somehow got corrupted during that update. It came with everything preinstalled, Destinator 6.1.8.357 and all Australian maps. It's been a terrific unit up til my problem and if anybody can help me with it I would really appreciate it.

I do not have the same problem, however I have the issue with Updating the Maps.

This is turning into a challenge. I have a lot of digging and just cant get any updated maps!!! which is just plain stupid.

I guess if all Shinco users get together, maybe we may have an opportunity to request the company to put up updated maps. I read somewhere that some other user tried contacting the company but with no luck.

I have the original disc that came with this model that I can send to you.
Mine works fine I just want to upgrade the maps to a later version, but can't find where as the shinco website was no use at all.

Want to turn voice off giving instructions telling me what to do next

Go into the tools menu or if it has a volume icon, turn the volume down all the way, you can't turn it off only down. Since you never give make, or model GPS that is about all I can say about it.

Can you change a GPS navigation system from street name to postcode

I am not sure what you mean by " post code" but a gps uses maps that are stored on the unit itself. In order to make a change on how it shows locations, it would mean that the maps would have to be edited. Any change like you are suggesting would involve a lot of work with computer programming. Since it is not a standard method of locating, it would not be marketed.

I can't adjust bluetooth, there is no "bluetooth" icon.

The Nuvi 755T does not have bluetooth capability. See this link to see the specifications of the 755T from the Garmin website:

Bluetooth wireless technology No
You would have to have a Nuvi 765T to have bluetooth

Screen comes up with updating bluetooth firmware & stays at 45%.

Your unit if locatiing a cell phone close by, could be yours or a friends in the car, on standing near you.

I would disable Bluetooth first, to do that go to Tools...Settings.... Bluetooth.... under Bluetooth disable then re-do your Bluetooth connection

Tools....Settings... Bluetooth .. under Connection you can remove the connection there also

If you don't have a Bluetooth connection you want to use just disable it

How to connect phone bluetooth to tomtom

First enable bluetooth function under the menu options. (if not bluetooth menu button is seen you will need to tap the "show all menu buttons" button in the menu)

once bluetooth is enabled follow the prompts that the One XL gives you to connect device.
Please make sure your device is in discoverable mode (blinking blue and red) during the process.
