Question about Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

1 Answer

Memory card wiped clean

I purchased my D80 on 07/03/08 fitted with a 4mb memory card.I Have used the camera since then no problem. However 2 weeks ago I took some shots whilst on holiday in France I then put the camera back in my camera bag under the seat of my car.A couple of days later I took out the camera again and the letters CHR appeared in the control panel where normally the number of exposures are shown. Also when I tried to view previous photographs the words THIS CARD CAN NOT BE USED were shown.I phoned my camera shop in manchester to see if they could help they suggested I fit a new card which I have now done and the camera is working fine again. When I returned home I took my camera into my dealer who put the card into their computer and said the card had been wiped clean.I have lost around 400 images from 2 holiday destinations as a result. When the camera was placed under the seat of my car I placed a sat nav next to it which was turned on could this be the cause? my camera dealer says no but I am not so sure.If they are right then I am very worried that this problem could happen again please advise

but there are software available with the local camera repair service center where they recover the lost images with a data recovery software and you can get the lost images back as they will charge you but it will not be too heavy charge.just take your device and the same card which was wiped out.and any of the settings you must have saved by mistake that created the problem and they will also make that clear and also explain you as what to do if you face the same problem again.

this normally happens if the card is not removed properly from the device or any rashes occur on the card the data gets wiped out.

or also it happens if you have saved the images in the card when the battery charge is at its end.

or.you have not saved the images properly .

I have a canon powershot a520 camera it it says memory card error only when I use the 8 gb memory card?

The A520 works with SD cards. Your 8GB card is actually an SDHC card. While SDHC cards fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not specifically designed to use them. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I wiped all photos from card...but when I re-insert the card in camera it says memory card full

You should make it a practice to format (initialize) your card from your camera's menu each time you use it. That will wipe all data and give you a clean start. If you format your card from your camera and it still indicate a full memory card, then the card is likely bad.

I have reinstalled the software several times.

1. Get a memory card. 2. Format the new card in the camera. 3. Go into the camera menu and find an entry for "copy" or some similar topic which would allow you to copy the contents of your internal memory to your new memory card. Once the pics are on the memory card, you should be able to download them to your computer.

Camera purchased 6 weeks ago and it does not turn on now. batteries read barely into good area on battery charger. thought regular AAs would work, but they don't. HELP!!

Try new Alkyline batteries again ... (not heavy duty ones).
Make sure the batteries are inserted in the correct polarity... I'm sure it's the batteries.

Memory card is full but there are no pictures on my camera.

Try using the "format" option in your camera's menu. That should wipe the card clean. There's probably a file or folder that the camera can't recognize as being one it created. You might also plug the card into a card reader and open it on a computer. The format option on the computer will also wipe the card clean to start fresh in the camera.

Are you supposed to use that big Memory Stick? I think the limit is 2GB with this camera. (Sony Cybershot P200)
