SOURCE: The power button on my Dyson DC19T2 won't stay on

The switch is broken. If you are handy, remove the old switch and match it up at a hardware store or a Vacuum repair shop. It shouldn't cost much to have it replaced by a proffessional either.

I'm sorry to hear your DC19 isn't picking up as well as it should be. Have you washed the filter recently? We recommend washing it at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent. Make sure the filter is completely dry before replacing it, which could take at least 24 hours:

If the filter has been washed, it's likely that there is a blockage somewhere in the floor tool, wand or hose that you may have missed. Excessive noise and smell from dyson dc19t2
It is possible the filter is dirty and restricts air flow which heats the motor due to excess load. The smell could be from overheated motor. Clean the filter if not done recently.
