Question about Philips Magnavox 20MS233S 20" TV

1 Answer

Magnavox Just letting you know I have the same problem...no signal message. A neighbor has the same problem with a different manufacturer's converter, even using an external multi-positional(motorized) antenna. We both have excellent free analog tv reception now.

I tried again this evening and was actually able to watch channel 4 and it's substations and channel 58. This is leading me to believe that it relates to the antenna or it's position. So a stronger and costlier antenna is probably required.

At this point I am considering pay tv (Verizon Directv) and forget about the converter. The converter is a work-around for the imminent digital tv rollout. When you select a channel... it is not immediate and takes a couple seconds to find using the scan map you created. Not so sure that all channels will be of good quality either.

Another solution is to replace the tv set with a set having a digital tuner.

Did you turn on the power switch on the right side of the box ? You should see a yellow light in front.

Press remote "on" button pointing the remote directly and level at the box(it's not very sensitive), and the light will turn green.

Press remote "setup" button and walk thru the menu with remote arrow buttons and ultimately to SCAN.

The scan when completed will go to the first channel found and saved in your map.

You may need a stronger antenna or your neighbor may have only a VHF antenna and most of the digital channels are being broadcast over UHf. . First, though, check the antenna connection as if they are dirty, they may be lowering the signal strength (these are the connections at the antenna). Check antennaweb.com for the angel to put the tv antenna at to pick up the most channels. Internal antenna work very poorly. I have been having no problem with my outdoor UHF/VHF antenna, it picks up the same amount of channels in analog and digital.

What connection do I need to use Magnavox 17" Model 17MD255V/17]TV/DVD as a monitor on a computer? Error message says "No PC Signal" Monitor cord is on. Power cord is on. What's missing? thx

You need to let the Magnavox know what signal it should be displaying. Look for a "Source" button on the remote or menu and choose PC or whichever slot you are hooked up, say HDMI.

I have an Apex AT2402 TV and bought a Magnavox DTV Digital to Analog Converter box , and I only got 3 channels after the channel search. I tried it 2 more times with 2 different antennas I had and it

Digital signals don't come from antenna. They come from the internet, or from a digital satellite receiver.
Then when you get the digital signals, you have to pay the provider for the channels you want to receive. As long as your provider does not know and did not sell you any channel you wont be seeing one.

Microwave ovens and digital converter box??

Disconnect the converter box power and all and see if the Microwaves work.
If they do Try to sheld the converter box with a steal box large enough for the unit to sit in and close. see if the ovens work. plce in the the ovens in a different wall socket that is on a different line or circuit breaker
Is it possible that the RCA converter box slid und the FCC regulatory door and the unit has enough of power for cross talk interference

No signal converter box.

Why is this in the computer section?

Anyway, don't exchange the box just yet! First, can you access the converter's menu? Because mine automatically comes up with the "no signal, call customer service" message, but I can access the menu fine -- so the hook-up is not the problem. If you can access the menu, let it autosearch for you, because mine can't be used until I do this. If you get the "weak antenna signal message", refer to the user manual to find out how to check your antenna signal strength; if it's in the weak range, you have to buy a better antenna, most likely from the official source: http://www.accessHD.tv

You can always exchange the box and repeat the process. Getting the "no signal" message is a good indicator that you've hooked everything up right, especially if it's accompanied by a customer service number. You can email me at kalalkb@gmail.com and I'll try to help you troubleshoot the problem if you like. I'm up all night.

Magnavox TV

Salutation TrudyK,

Great question! First think to know is that if you are getting your programing from a cable or satellite provider a digital converter box would not be needed. These services are not being required to change their signals. If you use rabbit ears or an antenna a digital converter maybe required.

Looking at the specifications of your televisions they all appear to have analog tuners which would need digital converters to receive the new digital broadcasts.

Thankfully the FCC does have a program in place to offer coupons to assist in purchasing the new converter boxes.

For more information on the digital transition and coupon programs BestBuy.com has a FAQS, wuizzes and tutorials available at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat120600050013&type=category
