Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

Missing Vertical Lines on the screen!

I haven't used my TI-83 for over 4 years (which had no problems whatsoever prior), but today when I powered it, it turns on fine, but there were several, 3-4 vertical lines missing. Like if I were to increase the contrast to all black screen, there would be 3-4 lines white/missing.

Anyone know how to fix this problem? I tried some of the solutions on this board, such as replacing the AAA batteries as well as the lithium, but still nothing. Please help!

the screen may be at the lowest dim setting, try turning it on, then pressing the 2nd key and then hold the up key and see if anything appears, if not let me know and I will try to figure out something else, I own a 83, 84, and 89 so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out

The "color" on your screen reset to dark. You can adjust it by pressing "2nd" and the "up" arrow (or "2nd" and "down" arrow) repeatedly.

SOURCE: My ti 83 is not working, even after i bougth new

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

I have an old TI-83 and there are vertical lines across the screen which have dead pixels, I assume. Can this be repaired or do I have to buy a new one.

While someone skilled in electronics may be able to fix it with enough time, the cost in time and labor would far outweigh the cost of a new calculator.

My screen on my t1-83 has gone really dark and i don't know how to make it brighter

Hi,

This means both your Xscl and Yscl values are too small. Fix this on the WINDOW screen, as explained under My screen is covered with horizontal or vertical lines.

Thanks

My TI-83 is all messed up

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your TI-83. The TI-83 is a discontinued calculator, so I really don't think that it can be repaired/replaced.

See TI's website below for more information:

Screen not displaying whole letters because of horizontal and vertical lines

I've had the same problem. A temporary fix that I have found is to turn up the contrast all the way (press [2nd] then hold down the up arrow) until the screen becomes mostly black. Then turn the contrast back down (press [2nd] then hold down the down arrow) until it is at a normal level. If you can get rid of all the white lines when you turn up the contrast the screen will be back to normal. Unfortunately this does not permanently fix the problem because I cannot get rid of all the lines and it seems to be getting progressively worse each time it start up the calculator.

Horizontal lines obstructing the second half of the ti 83 calculator screen, anyone know repair tips?

I had the same prob with vertical lines on the screen, and getting messed up when there was lots of numbers on the screen.

Solution: Change your batteries. Put some freshies in then adjust your contrast until you see the little black box. If you still have a problem with the lines, darken the screen until it's black (2nd up repeatedly) and let it sit for a couple minutes. Lighten your screen back to normal (2nd down) and turn off then turn her back on.
