Whirlpool washer (LXR9445JQ1) won't drain but still spins

I have a 7 year old Whirlpool washer that has had a lot of use. It has just stopped working, in the middle of the cycle. It won't drain, although it will spin. It makes a loud buzzing noise as well. The hoses and filters are all clear. I've tried turning it off, unplugging it, resetting it. Nothing seems to work. I have a washer full of dirty water and a pile of dirty laundry that is growing by the day!!

    My Whirlpool washer (LXR9445JQ1) will not agitate, drain or spin. It only hums when it gets to the agitate cycle. I called a technician and he told me it was a timer assembly. Well, I'm not so sure. The timer is clicking away quite nicely. It sounds like it might be a piece of clothing or debris in the pump that's preventing the motor from turning. I've tried using air to back-flush the pump but that did not solve the problem. (At least now I know it's not a blocked drain line) Before I open the machine up, is there a quick way to verify that this may or may not be the problem?

    I replaced the timer myself and sure enough, the machine is still showing the same symptoms.

Hi jenn
sounds like you've got coins or other pocket debris jamming the pump.if you turn the machine on its side to view underneath you will see a 2" DIa hose coming from the drum this leads to the pump.Using a pair of mole grips you can remove this hose from the pump and clear whats jamming it. hope this helps

It is probably a bushing (or coupler). I always forget the name. About $20. I have a Whirlpool washer from 1989. I called a Sears repairman out when it was 7 years old. The guy was nice and replaced it for $94. I watched what he did and he explained it to me. I guess he didn't know I could figure it out (just not the part name!). I have replaced that part going on 3 times. The part it about 1 - 1 1/2 inches round (or maybe oval a little with a thin rectangular cut-out in the middle. Perhaps two holes on each side. I last replaced it in 2004. About to replace it again. Good luck.

My whirlpool cabrio washer has started shutting off half way through the wash cycle...won't drain and spin...could the motor be overheating or is there something else I can check?

Most likely the cycle timer needs to be replaced. it is basically a clockwork device that that has cogs attached to a spindle. if you check the schematics for your product you will find the part no. etc. any servicing of course needs to be done wit the power disconected

Whirlpool top loader washer will not spin

Could be one of several different things depending on the age and model. If its less than 10 years old and is a top load washer its probably a motor coupling (connects the motor to the transmission kinda like a belt) or lid switch. If the water is draining out but the washer is not spinning its probably the motor coupling. If it still has water in it and won't spin, its probably the lid switch. If your washer is a front loader there could be several things going on. Hope that helps.

My ten years old Whirlpool AWM285 had a problem

You need to replace the carbon brushes on the motor. If this doesn't work then you will need to replace the motor itself

I own a whirlpool top loading washer - under 2 years old. it stopped draining water and spinning. replaced the timer and now it works fine, but now when the washer finishes spinning, the agitator stops...

depending on your exact mode;
sounds like a brake, or a clutch
those are really only two parts it could be
on the whirlpool the brake is part of the transmission on the direct drive

Whirlpool washing machine won`t spin or pump out

if youre handy with tools , check out the DRAIN MOTOR PUMP , usually located at the bottom on a side of the washer , it could be clogged with lint or debris , need to open washer , remove the DRAIN MOTOR , inspect inside to remove and clean it , be ready with rags , theres a lot of water that will come out once you remove it . good luck AJ
