Question about Dell 924 All-in-One InkJet Printer

Error message "Color cartridge missing"

I've installed a new color cartridge and the printer doesn't recognize the cartridge. Cleaning the contacts several times doesn't resolve the problem. The black cartridge is fine (both have been replaced several times in the past). Any ideas?

Sounds like you got one with a faulty chip, take this back to where you got it from and they should replace without any problems.

Are you using "compatible" cartridges? That is usually the problem. Try using Kodak cartridges. If that doesn't work, it's the printhead. You could try cleaning it.

Maybe the cartridge is not seated well in the cartridge carrier or just needs cleaning. Follow the instructions on this link to the Lexmark website on How to Clean the Print Cartridge Nozzles and Contacts Manually. If this doesn't help yet your cartridge is a genuine Lexmark cartridge, I suggest you contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance. Genuine Lexmark cartridges shouldn't cause you that much trouble.

Hello!
When the printer tells you "wrong cartridge", it is because it cannot recognize the cartridge.
Remove the color cartridge and gently wipe the electric contacts on it with a dry cloth. Put the cartridge back in and check for error messages.
If the problem persists, you will need to buy a new color cartridge, because the one you have is damaged- one of the contacts on it has blown, and when you place it in the printer, it won't recognize it, because one of the contacts is missing (that is why some printers give a warning sign "cartridge missing").

The lt magenta and magenta just quit printing between pages


1. Check if the cartriges are correctly installed:
Installing the Ink Cartridges

2. Print a diagnostic page and clean print heads, using the printer cleaning utility:
Color Mix or Missing Colors on the Diagnostic Page
Repeat if needed.

3. If this still doesn´t solve you problem, try resetting the printer and manually cleaning the cartrigdes as advised in this FAQ:

You did take the protective film off the new cartridge, correct?, could also be the contacts that recognize the cartridge ae dirty, also, try unplugging the power cord on the printer and plug back in to reset

No, you do not need 3 cartridges or anything like that. Some cartridges have chips. Yours do not. If the light keeps blinking it means that one of the electrical contacts on the cartridge has blown and now the printer doesn't recognize it. Try printing something, you will get a message "problem with color cartridge" or "color cartridge missing". That means that the printer doesn't recognize it. I suggest you buy a new one. Or, if you have an old one, try putting it in and see if the light still blinks.

Answer :
To resolve this error condition, reinstall the ink cartridge:
  1. Remove the color ink cartridge:
    1. Open the printer access door by lifting from the front center of the unit.
    2. Wait until the printhead is idle and silent, then pinch the latch on the color ink cartridge with your thumb and forefinger and lift it out of the printhead.
  2. Check the two electrical contacts on the ink cartridge for small marks, which should appear if the cartridge was installed correctly.

    If the electrical contacts do not have small marks:
    1. Reinstall the ink cartridge, making sure you press down on it until it clicks into position.
    2. Remove the color ink cartridge, then check the two electrical contacts on the ink cartridge again for small marks. Repeat if necessary.
    3. Reinstall the ink cartridge.
  3. Close the printer access door.

NOTE: See the User's Guide for more information about removing and installing the ink cartridge.
If the error persists:
  1. In the KODAK All-in-One Home Center, select the Help (?) icon.
  2. Select Maintenance.
  3. Select Firmware Upgrade, then follow the prompts to download the latest version of firmware, free of charge.
