Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

Good afternoon, I recently purchases a Maytag Washer & Dryer, 100th Anniversary Model. As this was my first major purchase in 18 years for a new set I was looking forward to getting the pair home and begin using it. Their were delivered on Saturday, September 20, 2008. After taking time to read the manual, we took the time to make sure the pair were balanced as per instructions. Things quickly changed from excitment to dread in using the new washer. Every time a do a load of laundry the washer vibrates out of control during the spin cycle. It seems that every load I do I have to go through the steps to rebalance the machine again. It isn't just a little vibrating either, when it vibrates it not only moves itself across the floor but it pushes the dryer along with it. I am so frustrated at this point that I am regretting my purchase. Over the last week I have only been able to do 5-6 loads of laundry becuase I get so fed-up with having to rebalance it that I don't even want to use the machine any more. I have rebalanced my loads thinking this was the problem, I have tried doing different sizes of loads, nothing seems to make a difference. My question for you is , how to I balance the machine so that it no longer vibrates?.

If your washer has four adjusatable leveling feet then one method would be to tilt the washer to gain access to the back feet first ( since they are the hardest to get to once the washer is positioned into its final location ) and spin them down so that they are projecting out ~ 3/4 inch from the cabinet frame. Then position the washer back into its final location in your laundry area. Check the side to side level of it by placing a spirit level ( normal carpenters level) across two flat surfaces of the washer cabinet on top and near the back) If they need a slight adjustment, then do that now.. re-check the side to side level until that is OK. Once you have the back part of the washer leveled side to side in the back and while it is in the final location of your laundry roomm check the front to back level. Use one adjustment leg on the front to get the front to back level on that side, then adjust the other front side leg so that it too is making contact with the floor and your front to back and side to side are all level. That is one way of setting it up however if after you are confident that it has been leveled this way ( all four feet are contactint the floor and that side to side and front to back are all level) and it still vibrates violently, you may have another problem with your washer that will need to be addressed. It should still be under warranty and I would speak with the sales people or their service department to set up an appointment to get it resolved. That is ONLY after you feel confident that the washer is level in its user position. Hope this helps you...

I have a Maytag gas dryer model MGD6000AW1 slightly over a year old (no warranty) that will cycle the heat but not heat long enough to dry clothes. Looking on the parts diagrams I see no thermocouple and...

The igniter itself may do double duty as the system heat sensor. The typical heat sensor is responsible for transferring somewhere in the vicinity of .7 micro-amp to the control board to prove that the flame is present. That's less than 1/100th of an amp dc current. Usually a faulty sensor can be corrected by cleaning its connection on the circuit board as slight oxidation inhibits the flow of current. If you have a separate sensor or 'flame rod' sometimes a sanding of its surface will remove oxidation enough to increase its conductivity.

Personally, I would go for a good cleaning of the blower and ducting as it sounds like it is cycling on high temperature.

Not sure if this applies to you, but I do remember back in January 2006 was the date that a large amount of the appliance manufacturers reduced the period of time that their appliances were covered by the manufacture, changes affacted nearly all types of major appliances.
Most went to a all inclusive 1 year parts and labor warranty and you the consumer would be responsible for all failures and labor after the 1 year period which started from the date of purchase. You may have made your purchase smack dab in the middle of the transition period and then details would probably be determined by way of manufactured date.
Good luck !

Maytag Top Loader Thumps When In Spin Cycle

My guess is that one of the three counterweights have separated from their support. Probably rusted away.
36 years is quite a feat. Today's machines would be lucky to 1/3 of that life.
Sounds like its time to go shopping.

I have an Maytag model # MAEDZ600TW2 Epic Z Electric dryer , the drum turns but no heat , circut breakers were checked , lint screen is clean , btw , date of purchase was 3/23/09

There are 2 common reasons your dryer will not heat.
1. Your limit switch is out on the dryer not allowing the heating element to switch on.
2. Your heating element is out.

before you try to fix this yourself it should be covered by warranty.
