Question about Brother Multi-Function Center MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Fax default I recently had Verizon Fios installed. Since that date, when I go to print, the printer defaults to the Fax and I have to manually change the setting. I must do this each time. I admit I am not extremely proficient on the computer; however, I have tried everything I know to change it back to the printer function. I cannot use the printer Icon, as a replica of the fax machine comes on screen. I have to go to "File", then "Print" and change the setting each and every time. I have contacted Verizon and they say this is not something they did and don't deal with printers. It did occur the day they were here, but I don't know if this was just a coincidence. Thankyou for any help you may be able to provide me. Coni Hecht P.S. Someone told me to remove my printer and reinstall.

This is no doubt a windows setting. It's not unusual for the default printer to be the last one installed. If you are using Windows XP, select Control Panel then Printers and Faxes. In the Printers and Faxes window you should see the installed printers on your system. Right click on the printer icon you want and in the drop-down-menu just left click on Set as Default Printer. That should set the selected printer as the default printer for your computer.

Thanks Wierdnella, I appreciate the compliment but I'm certainly no genius, just another techie with the urge to help when I can. That being said, I'm sure you're no more dense than the rest of us who can invariably miss the most obvious solution to a problem until someone else points it out to us.

I have a Lexmark X364DN and would like to change the default paper tray for incoming faxes.

Hi there,
1- Go to Fax Settings menu
2- Under Fax settings menu, look for Fax Receive Settings
3- Under Fax Fax Receive Settings, look for Paper Source
4- Under Paper Source You should find three options: Auto (default), tray <x> (the tray number you want it to print from), or manual feed.
Change according to your preference.
Hope it helps!

My HP OfficeJet 4315 All-in-One printer defaults on FAX mode for some reason. How do I change it to print?

To better help you I did the work for you... I copied this from the HP forum which if you google your issues most of the time you find the answer!

Copied from: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/HP-officejet-4315-all-in-one-printer/td-p/411239

There are generally two print devices set up when an all-in-one with a fax is set up - one is the fax device and the other is the printer. Make sure you have the print device set as the default printer and/or that when you want to print that the printer and not the fax is selected.

Setting the proper printer as default would depend on your operating system, but for most versions of Windows you would go to the printers folder, right click on the non-fax version of the Officejet 4315 and select "Set as default".

My Canon MX860 always defaults to FAX not PRINT

Use your operating system to choose the printer rather than the driver.
For Windows XP, go Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes. Right click on the printer and choose Set as Default Printer.

I just changed from DSL to FIOS, and now my fax/printer/scanner (all-in-one) will not print. I have an ethernet cable connected from the printer to the FIOS router, and who knows where to plug in the phone...

First, the phone connection to the fax simply needs to come from a regular phone jack. You will need to have a regular telephone number in order for it to work. As I understand it, FIOS is a fiber network, which means everything is comming to you via the internet. Faxing does not work over internet telephony
On to your printer.
If you had connected the printer through ethernet before, the IP your computer thinks the printer is on is most likely no longer valid. You will need to either reinstall your printer (easiest solution - recommended), or re-connect to it manually (requires much greater skill and knowledge).
I cannot assist you with re-connecting it manually, so your best bet is to simply re-install the printer.
Good Luck!

Wish to print outgoing fax log date/time/number

Hi,

I don't think there's a log you can print but you can do the following. Not quite what you want, but better than nothing...

You need to set the fax confirmation option to log faxes before you send anything. The default option is off, so you won't be able to get a fax log for anything you've already sent unfortunately.

1. Press Setup
2. Press 2 then press 1. This displays the Print Report menu
3. Select Fax Confirmation
4. Press c00424037.gif to highlight one of the following, then press OK

Off Does not print a fax confirmation report when you send and receive faxes successfully. This is the default setting.
On Fax Send Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you send.
On Fax Receive Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you receive.
Send & Receive Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you send and receive.

My fax machine

We are having the same problem. I can hear it dial, but when the receiver fax picks up, there is no signal from the Lexmark to let the receiver know that we are sending. All we need is one stupid "BEEP"! So much for plug-and-play.
