GE Dryer Model DRSR495 Shutting Down with a full load

I purchased this dryer new in Dec 2006 and it has worked great until recently. Now, when there is a load in the dryer it will not stay on for more than 30 seconds. Sometimes it won't even stay on that long. When there is nothing in the dryer it stays on, spins, and gets hot. I was first thinking it was the switch on the door, so I held in down and it does the same thing. Sometimes when there is a full load it won't stay on at all unless you hold the button down. Also when there is a full load the motor sounds like it is working harder than it should be. Thanks for looking and helping.

SOURCE: DRYER ONLY WORKS BY HOLDING DOWN THE TIMER BUTTON

You need to replace or repair the timer control, this is not a faulty motor control unit.

SOURCE: dryer won't stay on unless I hold the start button down. When I let go of the start button, it stops.

most likely the evenheat board is bad, but it could be the motor relay, get under the console and check the trouble shooting wiring diagram. there are several checks you can do to narrow it down.

SOURCE: my dryer stays hot

Hello, I'm going to assume this is a Electric dryer since you did not mention :) Ok your problem is with your heating coil. Basically what has happend is the coil has broken and the end that is wired strait to the electric supply is touching the chassis of where the heater is located, You should replace the heating coil and this will solve your problem :) You have a nice day and if there is anything else i can help you with please feel free to comment again. Thanks for using Fixya!! Mike

Maytag Neptune dryer timer won't stop

If the timer is not stopping as it goes around then it's for sure the timer. The timer does pretty much all the work with controlling the dryer. And if it's physically not stopping going around then it has broken.

My GE Profile Harmony Dryer purchased in DEc 2006 has had a rip in the stainless steel drum that has now reached about 2 x 3 inches large and now makes noise and does not dry properly. It appears to be...

The tear is due to a poor argon weld of the dryer drum. Check the owner's manual regarding any warranty details. Call the customer assistance line regarding this issue. Have your model and serial number ready for them to assist you. The tear in the drum is causing the blower on the dryer to pull air thru the tear in the drum instead of thru the rear inlet duct which draws the heat into the dryer. This results in abnormally long dry times due to no heat passing thru the drum.

My dryer used to shut off before the clothes are dry - now it wont start at all

Ok, the light will not come on if the door pressure swicth is damaged and, the dryer will not start if this switch is damaged as well. replace the door pressure switch asap.

Ok, concerning the interuppted drying cycle due to high heat, this can be cuased by two issue. It coudl be a venalation issue. if the dryers vent duct and exuast hoses are clogged, thsi will cuased the element to reach unsafe tempreturs, in return, tripping the high limit thermostsat and shutting the dryer off in the middle of the load cycle.

Another problme spot woul dbe a fualty high limit thermaostae. Although this is highly unlikey, this coudl be your issue.

Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

Dryer taking too long to dry clothes

Hello :)

Very common problem. You need to call a
duct cleaning company and tell them to clean
your dryer vent. Rule-of-thumb: dryer vents
should be cleaned every couple of years to
prevent them from being clogged with lint and
causing lint fires. This is definitely your problem.
Good luck :)

p.s. one way to verify a clogged vent is
to go outside where the vent exits the house
and feel the air-flow. should have adequate air-flow.

Dryer capacity

Yes, a full size dryer as yours is easily capable of drying a full sized load from the washer you mentioned. The wash tubs in the new model washers and dryers still maintain a standard size. For example, the front loader dryer that I purchased to match my front loader washer is completely identical to earlier standard models without all the fancy packaging. I could have saved some money and purchased only the washer, but...the wife needed a matching pair.

Now, you will still have to properly sort items to ensure they dry efficiently. A copy of your dryer owner's manual will describe this to you. I'm not here to give you lessons in how to dry your clothes, but if you do not own a copy of your manual and would like to refer to it, you can obtain a copy at geappliances.com. Just look under the "Service and Support" section for "Use and Care Manuals". Just type in your model number and your owner's manual is availble in a downloadable .pdf format.

The point I'm attempting to make here is that although you can place a full load from your washer in the dryer, if you do not properly separate certain items, they will not dry properly. I did not want you to think this was a cause of the appliance.

In addition, make sure the dryer vent ducting is properly cleaned and not clogged anywhere. This can also contribute to longer dry times.

I know you were only asking a simple question. I just wanted to be thorough in case additional question may arise. I hope this information is helpful to you.
