Question about Televison & Video

Sony KV-27FS13 fell face down from stand onto floor, maybe 18 inches. No physical damage to case, buttons or any marks. Power on causes standby light to flash, but no picture. Unplugged power waited 10 minutes and re-powered up. Same symptoms. No picture or sound

Hi,

How many times does this light(standby) blink, as there is a built in diagnostics for these Sony TV set.

The possible problem could be no reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.

how much electronic circuit training you have? and if you can use a schematic and know how these TV circuits work ?
You will need a mutimeter and a scope to trace the video.

The problem you have is on the M board or the U board, but a good going over, checking voltage will determine this .

Mostly the BLOWN FUSES will cause this problem that are positioned right next to each other on one of the boards. maybe from the M or U board, not sure.....

Kindly refer to any service center if you dont have enough training or knowledge in this area......

Thanx ....
Hope my info solves your problem.....

The condition seems that there is a cracked/broken parts caused by shock

to troubleshoot:
try to open its back compartment, then check or inspect for the broken part inside
if its motherboard got a crack, try to fix it by soldering the broken line using jumper wire
how to solder: http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/solder.htm
if there is a broken electrical component inside, desolder it and try to find exact value of the component from the electronic store near you. and then solder it.

After a fell down the tv flashes the standby light and the picture is not coming so its the definate problem of powersupply board in the tv.but the tv was working properly before the fell down so it could also happen due to any of the parts getting loose inside due to fall down so its advisable to open the back side of the tv and check on the main board if something is got loosed or broken internally which will be easily visible as the part will be damaged there and you just have to replace that part.and also check the small glass tube which is called the fuse as if the fuse is broken inside the same problem can occur as u are having in your tv.the fuse is made of very thin glass so if could break due to fall down.it looks like a mini tubelight and its located on the main board.and if everything looks proper and fuse is just cracked you can just replace the fuse it will be very negligible to replace the fuse of the tv.
for the new fuse you can click this link and they will provide you
www.radioshack.com
just click the above link and tell them your proper model number of your tv and they will send you the fuse at your door step.

Your circuit board is broken at the high voltage transformer. It is heavy and the board is thin. This where tv boards always break when they fall. If you can solder you can fix it. Run jumper wires to repair each individual broken line. Once it is repaired, though, the shadow mast inside the tube may have shifted and the color will be off. You can't tell until the set powers on and you get a picture. This is unrepairable.Good Luck!! Please rate this solution! Thankyou!

Try re-seating the lamp. If that doesn't work, check warranty status.

Even if there's no physical damage, a fall is a fall. Internals is what make it work.
Some fragile parts inside includes mirrors (each color has it's own set of mirrors).

Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the number of blinks. The words in parentheses are those, which you will see for each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in this article.

  • Unit is dead, No blinks - Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should show open).
  • Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.
  • One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis
  • Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.
  • Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
  • Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
  • Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
  • Eight GA_googleFillSlot("TL-IMU-Article");
blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.

  • Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).
Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.

This model it is very easy to crack a circuit board from even a minor fall. Most likely this is what happened. If the crack isnt to bad it will be repairable for less than $150 if you find a good repairman. If the crack is worse it could be non-repairable.

Let me know what kind of information you are looking for so I can better assist you!

Thank,
Tim

It keeps flashing between flashing lights regards

Hi.

The TV stays in standby because protection circuit kicked in.

Protection kicks in when an internal fault had been detected.

In your case the SCART cable may have caused a short.

When on protection the TV will stay in standby, will not respond to buttons or remote, and will not start up.
All higher voltages from PSU get shut down by controller board, and only the +5V remains on.

To attempt resetting the TV, disconnect all video cables, disconnect the power cord, wait about one hour and plug it back.

If TV does not restart, then there may be an internal fault.

In that case leave TV unplugged for longer, just in case.

If still no luck, then call Sony to discuss a repair. The number is listed on your owner manual.

If instead TV will restart, do not use the faulty video cable again, this can damage your TV.

Regards

Sony Trinitron KV-28LS36U no sound or picture, the standby light flashing green and red but if i switch it on a little bit of sound comes and then switches off. how can i repair?

The unit is shutting itself down because a problem was detected internally. When this happens, the standby light should blink a repeated pattern. Please count the number of blinks and post the number here. That will indicate the circuit in which the problem occurred.

Thanks,
Dan

My sony sxrd 60 inch fell off tv stand and now does not turn on. The green lights goes on but the tv doesnt turn on and i get 3 blinks from the red light. what does the 3 blinks indicate?

"Will Not Work"
"Bad Move Buddy"
"I'm All Done"
"That's All Folks"

Any of these will do, in reality, the set isn't going to power on as you likely have done some serious damage to the main board or tuner, etc.

Our sony tv keeps turning itself on stand by. you press the standby button on the remote and it comes back on for a few minutes then does the same again until it will not turn back on. you have to then...

When the Sony shuts down, the standby light shoulb be blinking a repeated count. Can you please post the model number and that count? The count will indicate the circuit that had a problem causing the set to shutdown.

I own a Sony T.V. model #KV36HS510, Serial # 9024184,Event# E36002407 and it"s aTrinitron brand name. Like the problems before no picture or sound, stand by light on front of unit flashes. When trying to turn it back on you can hear the power click, like it wants to turn on, but does not.
