It is a 2 year old Kitchen Aid dishwasher. used only about 50 times. ran well all the time.
suddenly, this morning, it decided to blink at me, and stop functioning beyond the blinking

    i opened the panel.
disconnected first the pink and black wires that are plugged into the computer module. the wires here are the same color as the wires that go to the control panel in the door handle. the NORMAL green lite went off. I plugged the wires back in. Pressed NORMAL, the green lite began to blink again. I went thru this procedure three times. same results.

Next procedure: press the NORMAL button. Green lite starts blinking. Then i disconnected the other plug with 4 wires to the computer module. NORMAL lite went off. Plugged the plug in. Normal lite when pressed began blinking. No further action. repeated this procedure three times.

thats all i did. what now? john

did you read my comment previously?

i thot you were the repair person?

  • rahard Oct 05, 2008

should i go ahead and purchase the parts mentioned ....switch, actuator?
what would calling in an expensive repair person do that you cannot do? tell me the same thing probably? and install the parts himself?

Irish druid....hi. this is rahard (outside of Galway, near Athenry)

need clearer understanding of some words: Door Switch, for example. If you can go to this web page:
    http://www.easyapplianceparts.com/MultiM...

you will find a parts list for the dishwasher we are talking about.

it lists various parts. can you tell me which ones you think I will need from that list?

because the Normal button lights up, I will assume there is electricity.
so, perhaps the actuator? the actuator could be a 'switch" as you noted, couldn't it?
till i hear again from you...john

You'll have to check the following:

Door switch The door switch is important because, if it's defective, the dishwasher won't work at all. To reach it, you need to remove the control panel cover, or sometimes the interior liner of the door. If it's defective, you need to completely replace it.

Wiring Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dishwasher, burns and breaks the connection. If that's the problem, the wires must be repaired/replaced as necessary. If that's not the problem, check the wiring to the door switch, the wiring between the door and the lower part of the dishwasher, and the wiring to the timer. Repair any broken, burned, brittle, or defective wiring, using the proper appliance-grade wire and connectors.

Timer or selector switch Although it's uncommon, the timer or the selector switch may be defective. If so, you need to replace the defective part, because neither of these can be repaired.
If all these seem OK, then you'll have to get a repairman to run tests and accurately diagnose the problem. Unfortunately, all we can do is provide a long distance evaluation and all possible troubleshooting steps. The actual repairs will have to be carried out by you.

Hope that helped!

THIS is the door switch I am talking about. But depending upon the exact component that is defective, it could be either this or this as well..
However, these are only suggestions. It could be that these parts are still in working condition in your washer, and only a slight alignment adjustment may be required. I wouldn't recommend simply going ahead and buying all the parts mentioned here. I have just given all the possible causes for the issue. It would be impossible to say exactly what is needed without conducting a manual inspection. Hence, I would really recommend getting a repairman out to take a look. At least now you have an idea what to expect, instead of getting fleeced by the mechanic :)

So you're from Galway? Nice city..was there in January last year. I'm staying in Dublin myself. Drop me a line if you're ever round here!

Cheers mate, and I hope you get the issue sorted out!

1) Be sure the power is on, the door is latched, and the control is turned on. Also make sure the appliance cord is plugged into the electrical receptacle under the sink (some are hardwired and don't come unplugged).
2) If that doesn't solve the problem, the door switch, the timer, or the selector switch may be defective. To solve the problem, you may be able to adjust the door latch's strike slightly, using a screwdriver (turn off the power to the dishwasher at the electrical panel when working on it).

3) If that doesn't work, call an appliance repair person.

yes i'am but i cannot actually do the fixing and assembling it personally.. i have advise you to call someone near your place someone who can do the actual job for you, if you have no idea or background experience working on that appliance.

here we give help and fix the problem, but we not always instruct you to self serviced the unit just to avoid any further damage and danger to.

My Kenmore dishwasher, model# 665.1357K700 has quit working. When I try to start the dishwasher any of the cycle buttons I choose will rapidly blink and nothing happens if I try the start...

Hi

First make sure that nothing is blocking the drain pump assembly located inside the lower front panel of the dishwasher. If the issue returns after its cleaned then it means that the control board has gone bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher LIghts are blinking....

I just read this for the same problem: push sanitize, then heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, cancel, then open and close the door. It worked. The dishwasher is running correctly even as I type this.

Whirlpool GU2548 green light flashing, nothing working

I have had the same problem with my the same dishwasher. The manual says that "the dishwasher has malfunctioned. Call service to check heater element". I called service and they are saying that replacing the heater element and possibly the electronic panel may be required. Total cost (part + labor) = $350-400!! I am very very upset with Whirlpool right now.
