We are having the same problem with our monitor that you had. We see the Ultrasharp logo blink and then nothing. Did you ever find out what was wrong with your Dell 2001FP monitor. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Most likely, this is failing "inverter."
The backlight of the monitor (that makes the image visible) is controller by a special chunk of electronics called an inverter. They tend to fail over time. The symptom is that the backlight either never comes on, flickers, or shuts off after a short period of time.
It is a moderately advanced repair job to change out the inverter, but you can usually get the part on eBay. Search for the exact monitor model number and "inverter".
The 2001FP has six lamps and the inverter is fairly expensive. You might be better off putting that money towards a newer monitor.
try to acces the menu and to reset the display settings. try another monitor on your computer to be sure that your video board is working, and if it is change the resolution in 1024X768 and try again your dell display
From your description your backlight is going out. The fluorescent light when it begins to burn out tries to draw too much power. Your inverter is sensing this 'too much' power draw and shuts down power to the back light. Replacing the backlight is the most technically difficult repair of an LCD, and most repair shops don't even offer this service. I recommend that you sell your LCD 'AS IS' on eBay or a similar website. The Power board and the Control Board are both usable parts that can be easily salvaged from most Dell Ultrasharp monitors.
I have a dell ultrasharp and at first it would not come on at all. Open it up and found loose connection on plug connectors 3 pin. Soldered and would come up but blinks in and out sometimes take longer than other times. Big Capacitor when open up Power supply was leaky. Check for bad caps
