If this is an amplifier or receiver, this is often due to either a shorted output (disconnect speaker wires from the unit and see if the issue still happens) or an issue with the output stage internal to the amplifier such as a shorted transistor that is causing a DC offset or similar. Try disconnecting the speaker wires from the unit and report back with results and details.

On page 19-20 you must tell it that it has surround back speakers (something other than NONE). They aren't just 'recognized'.

You have 7 pairs of plastic binding posts.

Unscrew the post until it comes out an eighth of an inch.

You will see two spaces in the black plastic one at the top and one at the bottom of each binding post. That space is for the wire. Strip half an inch of jacket off your speaker wire and slip the stripped part inside the hole and screw the binding post down on it and it will squeeze the wire against the contacts.

If you find that difficult since the posts are so close tommorow, a "Banana Jack" may be put on the wire then pushed into the hole in the binding post.

It is difficult to describe in writing but onece you see it you will understand.

Black posts are the negative, they are all on a common ground. Coloured posts are positive.

Sounds like the power supply or associated module. Definitely fixable, but probably needs a technician.

Disconnect the cable from the laptop and try to get sound out from the laptop via speakers or headphones, have a look around the sound settings.

Problem is it is a common problem. I have one with the same thing, it appears as though HK discoed the line for a reason and sold them all at half price in Costco.

1) check connector for 2 way sound. you can use a headphone for this.
2) you also buy Ipod dock sound speakers, there is Ihome speakers, great ones, for less than 25.00 dollars.
3) you have to see balance on those speakers.
