There is a possibility that the router may initialy have not been setup properly, try to check on the articles I made on the link below and you may get this one going, even with wireless security and all.

Setting up your Linksys router for Cable ISP

Setting up your Linksys router for DSL ISP

Setting up your Linksys router to have wireless security.

Have you checked to make sure your internet is connected through your router, and DHCP is turned on. Sounds like you may have internet connection sharring setup through your desktop and it is acting as the dhcp server

I had the driver namely compqsp26790 but corrupted due to virus. Can i get same drivers again

Hi,

The driver that you need is that for a specific brand of a laptop or for a router? Usually you won't be needing drivers for a router to make it work. If it is for a specific brand of a laptop/desktop, you can go to their support website and download it from there. e.g. HP Support Website

Hope this helps.

Two possibilities. Either the ip number for the laptop is the same as the hard wired LAN connection (if so change one of the ip numbers to a different one unless using DHCP) or the wireless is failing in the router.

You need to plug your blue cable back into your laptop and the other end needs to go into your hughes modem, or you could leave the end that is plugged into your hughes modem and put the end that is now in the desktop modem into your laptop instead. To have the desktop on the internet you have to remove the end in the laptop and put it into the desktop modem.

The blue cable is spare unless you have any extra sockets that will accommodate it in your hughes modem and have both laptop and desktop connected to it.

Router not working unless

Several questions --

How is this wired?

Comming from the Cable (tv) or a phone wire (DSL) from a phone jack you are connected to a modem/whatever supplied by your service provider. Then an ethernet cable (looks like a fat phone cable with extra wide connectors (8 metal connectors instead of 2 or 4) connects the modem/whatever to your router's WAN port (the separate port not one of the block of 4) and another ethernet cable connects the one of the outer's Lan ports (probably block of 4) to the desktop computer and your laptop operates wirelessly. Is this correct? If not explain houw this is wired, please. For consistency please start at the cable or phone wire.

Does your desktop do anything to log into the internet with a userid and password maybe?

If so who is your internet service provider?

We may need to change the login process and get it into the router and off the desktop.

So you want to remotely control your Desktop from your laptop from anywhere, correct?

Well only thing you need  is an internet connection, and you can access your desktop.

There are tons of software you can use to control your desktop remotely.

Here are some good ones:

Logmein free click that, that will link you to LogMein's free solution.

Logmein offers several solutions, the free is what I would use for you unless you wanted to pay.

Another very good one is:
RemotelyAnywhere click there, that is a very good software probably my favorite.

Those are the main 2 that you would like.

There are other ones more for more advanced users like:

Good luck!
