Yes, you can replace just the batteries. It's fairly common that the motor will last far longer than the batteries, so you can purchase them separately and install them. You can usually find them at about $12 a piece on "that auction site." Here are the instructions:

Opening a Braun 7000 Series Shaver

1) Find a thin metal object with no sharp edges (such as a nail file). Use your thumb and pull on the bottom end cord socket part, enough to cause a gap between it and the back shell. Insert the metal object into the gap in the center of the part. THEN pry it off. If you use a regular screw driver, you will likely cause gouges in the plastic. And the best leverage is in the center.

2) The silver side parts are held on by two tabs at the top. With the bottom piece gone, the side parts swing off easily. Don't worry about keeping track of which sides the silver trim pieces go on, as they're designed to fit on only one side (you'll see the cutout for the shaver head stem is off to one side).

3) The case is held together by 4 small torq screws. Use a torq screwdriver--do not attempt to do this with anything else. Be careful to turn the screws slowly, so you don't strip them.

4) With the screws removed, the two halves of the shaver will come apart. The remaining parts can be extracted without any special tools. Keep note of how they are removed, as assembly will be the reversal of removal.

5) Note that if you are replacing the batteries (there are two of them), you will need a soldering iron to detach them from the circuit board, unless you're replacing the whole part.

6) Reassembly is pretty much what you expect--the reverse of disassembly. However, the bottom cord socket part is tricky to get put into place. Pushing straight down on this part will not get it to go in, nor any other obvious way. It's best to get the prongs inserted on one side, then while pushing in on the prongs of the opposite side, apply pressure on the top side surfaces. The part should snap right back into place.

This fixed mine. i noticed in instruction manual i copied off web that the base will completely discharge the shaver and then recarge it. its the nature of this battery type to accept a smaller charge each time. ignore the base. use or run the razor until lcd says empty. recharge useing shaver cord not base for 4 hours ignore lcd. i did this 5 times and the 6th time it took a charge and ran for 47 minutes. if this doesnt fix all you have wasted is a little time. ps if you do neeed to replace battery in razor cause its worn out, you will have to replace also the circuit that the battery is mounted on. why i donna know. good luck.

SOURCE: Battery replacement for Braun 8585

If the "reset" described didn't work all that well, as a last resort you can replace the batteries. You have two choices: put in a battery/circuit-board part replacement (drop in), or solder in new batteries. If you've got some soldering experience, I recommend replacing just the batteries. You can buy new NiMH AA 1.2v flat top batteries rather cheaply (less than $4 per cell) and using a soldering iron, take out the old ones and secure the new ones. Look for batteries with at least a 1650mAh rating. Good luck!

Most likely, the batteries are bad. If the charging light still illuminates when plugged in, you should be able to change the batteries to fix the problem.

Shaver gets hot to the touch when it is charged and ready to use this is a braun 549 series and it just started doing this

Batteries that get hot when charging usually indicate that they are needing replaced. I would guess that your shaver no longer holds a charge as long as it should

How I change the battery and what is the cost of a battery.

If the shaver still works but just will not hold a charge as long as it should, you can fix this by replacing the batteries. If the shaver is dead and will not run and the green charging light no longer illuminates when you plug it in, you will need to change the whole circuit board.
You will find the batteries and the circuit board with batteries at shaveroutlet.com. You can order which you require by viewing the links below

To open the shaver, you will need to pry out the two round plastic screw covers on the bottom then remove the screws underneath. You can then remove the outer case by sliding it down and off of the shaver bode. Then remover the black plastic cover inside to access the circuit board and batteris.
If replacing the entire circuit board, you will simply lift it out and replace. If just replacing the batteries, it is suggested that you use a modified installation technique. This is to break the tabs off of the old batteries rather than unsoldering them from the circuit board. This allows the old batteries to be removed but leaves the tabs attached to the circuit board. You can then solder the tabs from the new batteries to the old existing tabs

My toshiko trimmer is not getting charged, even after charging for 6 hrs it works hardly for 5 seconds and stops.what should i do?

mcdevito75 here, Sounds like the batteries won"t take a charge anymore. Refer to the Toshiko website at Tosiko.com for battery replacement, however at times the batteries cannot be replaced as they are attached to a circuit board and, you"d need to replace the shaver.
