Question about Televison & Video

Re our Samsung TFT-LCD TV (LN-R328W). An organized pattern of very small yellow rectangles now appears on our screen. Multiple pushes of the caption button on our remote temporarily reduces the number of these rectangles so that they just appear as background with the caption letters. Decoder problems or what?

Have you try connecting it into a vcr or a dvd player.. try this one so that we can trace that the problem was not on the tv, but to the device connected to it..

Please check and confirm problem by playing dvd player on your tv. This will make you sure that problem is in Decoder or in TV itself.

Vizio 42" LCD - Random appearance of small black rectangles

I would check and see if you have the text option on under your closed captioning. With the new digital transition the signal for text captioning has been getting messed up during broadcast here lately. If it is on i would just shut it off or go to regular closed captioning.

Loose HDMI Connection

Dont use the HDMI connection OR replace the main board. Its directly soldered to the main board. The back should come off IF you have removed ALL the screws and the little screws things that hold on the VGA connections etc. There are also some obscure screws holdin the back on.

To view the captions, all you have to do is turn on the decoder by following these simple steps:
  1. Access your TV menu screen using your remote or by pressing a button on the face of the TV.
  2. Select the closed captions heading. Several different caption options may appear.
  3. Select the "CC1" option.
  4. Exit the menu.
Closed captions should appear within approximately one minute of adjusting this setting. If they do not, review this portion of your television's operating manual or contact the manufacturer of the television set.

Public Television stations do not transmit Closed captioning

Screen flicks from colour to black and white

If it does it only on HDMI, then, the problem is the Main PCB. The HDMI cables are to heavy for flat panel sets. If the problem happens on just one input such as component and analog, then the problem is more than likely the source. Does the problem appear on DVD, but not the cable/satelite? If the problem appears on every input, then the problem is the main PCB. Hope this helps.

Blue/black vertical line in the middle of screen

Sounds like a bad connection on a ribbon cable or plug comming or going to the LCD display. This is something you should not try to fix as these circuits are very very fradgile and you can easily break or tear a ribbon cable . Call the manufacturer to get a tech to assit you. Good Luck
