Question about Digital Cameras

12 Answers

When turned on, my Olympus 700 Stylus digital camera shows a thin green vertical line on the right side of the viewfinder--7/16 of an inch to the left of the right edge of the viewing area. Part of this line from the bottom up appears on the images downloaded into my computer. However, when the intensity of the light is increased, the visibility of the line in the viewfinder and downloaded image is decreased. What is the problem and can it be corrected?

Sorry, I have not been leaving comments. I have been trying the various suggested solutions. I still have the green line on viewfinder and the partial line on the downloaded image. I'm continuing to seek solutions, for if it's actually a ccd problem, I will probably need to purchase a new camera.

I followed your instructions and still have the problem. Nothing changed at all. Thank you for the help.

Try blowing the cool air blower of very high speed for couple of minutes on the device in the power OFF condition.if there is any dust particle it will automatically blow away.and then on the device and check if the problem repeats again or not mostly it will be solved.but if it is still there remember if the device droped some where or dashed to something in the near to problem day.then the lens would have been slightly cracked and that cracked line on the lens is coming in to the images you click.so its necessary to replace the ccd lens.take it to the service center.

Hi,
The problem is fixable , but you would require a service tech to the job. The camera has very small components inside and would require precison tools and a steady hand.
You can contact olyumpus support for best results , they would charge you somewhere around 150$ for service .

Thanks
proton

Hi, Since its a line and not a pixel.  Your CCD sensor seems to be fine.
Either the circuit to the CCD sensor or the software is faulty...
Since its disappearing with high intensity of light, it seems Red and Blue (out of 2 colors Red, Green and Blue) are working but less intense than Green.
Trying to reset to factory defaults is worth a try. But if it doesnt work, you can do it with the pictures you download.
You can use some software like photoshop to select the vertical line and play around with its "Green" value and thus getting back the original picture.

When you say visiblity is decreased, I assume you mean the picture looks better (like almost without green line).

It would also be a good idea if you can post both the images (less light and more light)

I meant the one shot in less intense light and other shot in highly intense light.

    thanks,

This is caused by the failure of one or more pixels on the CCD. Run the Pixel Mapping feature to check and adjust the CCD sensor and image-processing functions. Wait about one minute after taking or viewing pictures to allow the Pixel Mapping function to perform properly. If the camera is turned off during pixel mapping, you must start over. To run pixel mapping, turn the mode dial to any shooting mode except [GUIDE]. Press the [Menu] button above and to the left of the arrow pad. Use the arrow pad to select the [SETUP] menu, and then press the [OK/FUNCTION] button. Use the Up and Down arrows to scroll through the Setup menu to the [PIXEL MAPPING] item. Use the Right arrow to select [START]. Press the [OK/FUNCTION] button to activate pixel mapping. Once the process has completed, the line should no longer appear in images you subsequently capture and download.

The part of of your digital camera (software that is embedded in the internal electronic circuitry) that processes image that is taken via the lens is malfunctioning and it is not user-serviceable.

You need to have it repaired.

This is a problem with your CCD and not any software fault

and so best solution wil be to get this serviced by authorized service center

  • dewan nafees ahmed Oct 05, 2008

when the camera image is having the line it must be either some small thread stuck to lens or else small faulty portion in CCD.

what else can it be?? there is no other go.

but its ok. you can try many solutions for your satisfaction. may be you can get it solved if lucky.

    thank you

I have a red line through my photos.

Answer ID 16497 Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? --> With some DSLR cameras, a normally clear LCD screen is used to display Auto Focus area brackets in the viewfinder. When power is supplied to the screen, you may sometimes see a faint vertical line appear in your viewfinder. This is perfectly normal and is just part of the finely etched circuitry used to power and illuminate the liquid crystal segments of the AF area brackets.

If it works, use it as long as you can.

Fixing snap-shooters is generally not worth it,
