Question about HP LaserJet 3030 All-In-One Printer

ADF not working.

Hi,
I was getting a black line whenever I faxed or printed using the ADF. Printing from my computer or copying from the glass did not have the same problem. I took it apart an cleaned everything and of course now my adf is not working at all. I was careful to put everything back the way I took it off, but obviously have done something.

Any suggestions?

If the black line shows only when you use the ADF, lift the whole document feeder, and look on the very left of the glass (the area onto which the paper is travels from the ADF). Check that the glass is clean in that area.

On the ADF:
Open the small ADF cover on the top right. There you will see rollers and a paper sensor. First make sure the isn't any paper stuck in the rollers. Clean the rollers with a damp cotton pad or cloth a small amount of dish washing detergent. Make sure it is damp. Then check to make sure that the paper sensor lever is working by toggling it. The paper sensor is spring loaded, check that the spring is in place.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

When I fax it copies a black line is on the page. And when I copy from the top part it copies a black line. How can I fix that?

are you getting black lined copies while you are trying to send a fax or black lined images are obtained at the receiving end. Is there any problems while copying from platen glass. if it's ok, then check if there is any thing on the stream reading glass (the small sized glass plate meant for ADF) & clean it.

When I send a fax through the document feeder it prints out at the other end with a black line down the page. I have cleaning my cartridges and everything else.

If the line only shows on ADF and not off the glass copies (where you lift the lid and place then item right on the glass), then there is something on the glass that the ADF uses. If you open lid you should be able to see the section of glass where documents that are fed through the ADF pass over. Make sure that this glass is spotless and use a cloth dampened with window cleaner to ensure that you get any label adhesive off the. Often even very faint bits stuck to the glass that you can hardly see will show up as black lines.

When copying we are getting 2 lines down one side of the copies

Only when copying? What about printing? There are a couple possible causes. The easy one to check for is to make a copy by laying your original on the glass. Now make the same copy using the automatic feeder on top. If the feeder copy has the lines but the glass copy does not then the problem is coming from the ADF scanner glass which is the thin strip of glass that is just to the right of the large main glass. If so then just clean the strip of glass with a soft cloth and some glass cleaner. Note that sometimes the stuff that might be stuck to the glass is hard to get off. If BOTH the ADF copy and the main glass copy have the lines then most likely the lines are coming from the drum unit. If you have the copier hooked up for use as a PC printer then does the print from the computer have the lines as well? Then it most definately is coming from the drum unit and you would need to replace it. If the PC prints are clean then the drum is not the cause.

SCX 4826FN everything that goe in through the top feeder (scans, copies, faxes) comes out with a solid vertical black line on the paper. All other printing jobs that pull paper from the tray are ok. It...

This black line sounds like it is definately coming from the ADF scanner glass. This is the thinner strip of glass that is located just to the left of the large original glass. You can verify this by making a copy from the large glass instead of using the feeder on top. If the copy comes out clean then it is definately the scanner glass. Just clean the glass well with glass cleaner and a soft cloth. This glass is only used when copying/scanning using the top automatic feeder

Black line appears in copying from Konica Bizhub 200

If the black line appears ONLY when copying and NOT when printing then you need to clean the adf strip glass. This is the thin strip of glass that is just to the left of the large original glass. Clean this glass very well with a soft cloth and glass cleaner. The line is caused by a small particle stuck to this strip of glass.

Copies run through the feeder have black line on them, copies on glass & faxes are okay

Clean the ADF scanner glass. This is the small strip of glass that is just to the left of the large glass. Normally there is a label on the machine right by this glass that instructs you to clean this strip of glass whenever streaks appear when using the ADF or Automatic Document Feeder. Sometimes toner/dirt gets stuck on this strip of glass so clean it well using a soft cloth with some glass cleaner.

HP 3055 printing black lines when using collate feature to copy

All you need to do is to clean the small wide glass (that at the LEFT of the main flat big class). The Auto Document Feeder (ADF) specifically uses this glass to scan for copy (and fax). When it is dirty (such as small dirt or particles on the surface which is easy to gain in long run), it will create thin vertical line(s) as the result.

Black vertical lines on faxes sent using auto document feeder

If you lift up the lid on your scanning device you will notice a glass strip about 1 inch thick and then the large area of glass used for flatbed scanning. The 1 inch strip is used for ADF scanning. Because your papper is moving across the glass strip, any dot, smudge or scratch will affect your scanning and cause verticial lines down the page. Sometimes the dot is not visible to the eye. Get some glass cleaner that has alcohol in it and thoroughly clean the glass strip and it should solve your problem. If it turns out to be a scratch on the glass then cleaning won't help.
