How do I get spark

Make sure the magneto is not grounded and make sure the air gap between the flywheel magnet and magneto is set to specs. If air gap is too wide, it will be difficult for the magneto to produce an efficient spark.

Brand new, seems like everything assembled fine. Won't start. Right gas mix, right chain saw oil. No start. Makita dcs 400.

remove the chain and bar and try to start without it, if it start then chain was too tight. also you may need to do a small adjustment to carburator. check spark plug gap. check for spark. even brand new one need an adjustment at first use. if you can not make it start it has warranty. take it where you bought it.

Spark plug gap is .025

As for the air gap in-between the flywheel, and magneto, I generally start with a piece of notebook paper in-between them.

After the bolts are snugged down, turn the flywheel by hand to spin the paper out.

Chainsaw makita dcs 340 was running fine until i adjusted spring on pullcord tensioner to stop cord slipping and failing to has a spark and fuel to carb. any advice welcome?

The pull cord shouldn't have anything to do with your problem.

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spraywith carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris.(Should be able to see daylight through it.) Use a Den Tek Brush, (,to clean the small portals in carb. These portals canbecome blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.
