You need to contact your Internet Service Provider for them to setup the modem properly and also to put some information of your modem to their system in order for it working and provide you internet...

Hope that helps.......

If the local area connection icon specifies as network cable unplugged, then the computer has not sensed the connection between the computer to the cable modem / DSL modem, please reseat the cable behind the cable / dsl modem to the computer. If the icon still shows unplugged, then change the network cable between the two.

If the issue still persists, please revert with more details lik the kind of internet connection used and the reason for reinstalling.

When connect to internet says no modem

Hi.. Check your modem cables 1st of all for loose connection. And make sure that the OS your using is compatible with your modem, I know it might feel a bit strange..the link b/w modem and OS. But I had 1 personal experience when ma modem was not compatible with ma OS i was using (LINUX).
There are also possibilities tat your devise is not installed. So go to device manager. Check if any yellow exclamation marks there. Delete the device showing that, press refresh button, feed in your modem drivers when it asks.
Go to settings. Select control panel. In control panel, select system. In system
select devices(?) manager. Check there to
see if you have a COMM port enabled. The symptoms included that a commnication or dialing program can dial out.

Check your BIOS settings too..see if the port is dissabled..
N if nothing works use a diff modem..!!

Go to AOL's website or call AOL for support as only your ISP knows the exact settings for your modem/router.

Can't locate a Modem connection

Ok, First off, Yes, if you have a plug in the back of your computer that allows a standard phone connection wire from computer to the wall, that usually means you have a modem. If you have the ability to get Broadband internet, my suggestion is to get that instead. Its more reliable and doesnt have an automatic disconnect feature that AOL has always had. Also, if you already have broadband, then you can connect with AOL directly through the broadband connection and skip the Modem use entirely. Best i can tell you, other than if your computer is not finding the modem, that means its been either disabled or is missing the drivers.

The speed i get through this modem from aol is diabolical only 0.44 can you please help me the modem number st586vb peterlane06@aol.com

The problem is not your modem.
The problem is your internet provider connection.
However, if you refuse to take my council you can call AOL as a paying customer and ask for help tweaking your settings which they will help your for free.

After you have spent hours on the phone to no good result, you will change internet service providers *S*

Thank you and good luck.

After aol main computer went down they told me to reoncifugre the router i dont know how to do this and as i dont have a home fone line i cnt ring them any help please?

First thing to do is try to connect to the Internet without AOL then sign on to AOL using the broadband connection. When Internet Explorer is open, even without a connection, go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections and check the 'Never Dial a Connection', Click on Advanced and check the 'Automatically Detect Settings' check box. If you are not connecting to the Internet then turn off or unplug the power to the modem, turn it back on and wait 2 minutes. If you don't connect then do the same with the router power. If you still haven't connected using just Internet Explorer, NOT AOL, then talk to your router directly:) Do this by Start>Run>type http://192.168.1.1 (Linksys) or http://192.168.10.1 (Motorola). A logon screen appears. User Name is the manufacturer's name and 'admin' is the password. A web page or dashboard will appear. For a cable modem select DHCP. For DSL select PPPoE. Static addresses can also be entered if you know what they are but probably not. When you see ip addresses listed open Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome or whatever browser flavor you like EXCEPT AOL. Once connected to the Internet then go to AOL. More specifics on your broadband service and hardware makes will get you more specific help if you need. Happy surfing!

Modem in use

Try the following:

-Open the Control Panel
-Open System
-Click on Device Manager
-Click on Modems
-Highlight and right click on the listed modem
-Select Uninstall

Close out anything open and Restart.

IF (!) Windows is cooperating, it should 'find a new device' and reinstall the Winmodem (it's only software and a little telephone line matching).

If Windows fails to recognize the 'new device,' you will have to manually reinstall it via the 'add new hardware' path in the Control Panel.

As with any Windows stuff - rotsa ruck!
