Pix tube has nothing to do with set powering on or off. Bad advise! If sides are sucking in it is a horizontal power problem and power supply must be checked by professional. Stop looking for a "broken wire etc"

You'll need a new picture tube. It is dieing out, and it likely about to die for good.
