Mine does the same thing, it appears to be a scanner sensor that has failed. The machine starts by lighting up the scanner, then moving out of park position, then repeatedly trying to move it back into the parked position. It appears to be a sensor that is not working, and needs a part replacement.

More investigation: My problem seemed to be a dirty glass on the scanner bed. To fix: I unplugged the unit, removed the 3 screws above the glass, and the one screw on the right of the glass, but not the one to the left -- that just holds down a smaller piece of glass where the ADF scanning happens. I then popped off the silver trim piece around the buttons (the plastic part that tells which each button is.). On the keyboard, there is a locking button on the front right side of the button control panel that keeps the keyboard locked in place side to side. I pushed it up/back and moved the whole panel over to the left, and then lift it out and rest it in the paper tray so that it is out of the way. You are then left with two tabs (one on each side) on the front of the unit that hold the scanner onto the unit. I placed a flat screw driver under them and popped up the scanner. Be careful, I can see stress lines in the plastic where it almost broke... The top of the unit should be loose. Take it off, turn it over and set it on your workspace upside down. I kept all the cables plugged in. The glass was foggy and dirty, I removed the glass and cleaned with windex. I then put things back together in reverse order and my unit is working like new!

I have HP laserjet 1018 printer and it makes noisy sound when it prints. But it prints fine though. What causes making this noise?

The noise is probably due to the print heads aligning and clicking. To try to make this noise a little quieter, clean and align the print heads.
Good luck!

I am receiving an error message on my HP Officejet 6110 printer screen that prevents the printer from functioning. The message is "Open door. Clear carriage jam and then press enter." I've tried opening...

yes, that is a carriage jam and not paper, the grinding is from the clean station that gets blocked with dried ink and cant move. you need to open the printer and clean the ink off of the clean station so it can clean properly and not cause a carriage jam.

Noise from HP LJ 1020

Change the gears , coz when the machine load or when you are printing the roller turn, and those roller has gears at the ends so when they are died they give those sounds, open the cover and try to detect which gear make this noise and change it.
