see if this helps you out.. To resolve this you need to alter the port that your iPhone or iPad uses to send mailwhich can be done as follows. Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select the account you wish to change. On the next screen, scroll down to the "Outgoing Mail Server" section and select the SMTP server that is listed.
If iPhone is unable to send mail, try these basic troubleshooting steps.
1) Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and under Accounts, tap the account from which you're trying to send mail. 2) Scroll down to where it says Outgoing Mail Server and tap the box where it says SMTP. 3) Scroll down to where it says AT&T SMTP Server, and tap it turn it on, or Turn on all other SMTP Servers.
What email provider are you using.
Also check who is your incoming mail server but the best way to do this is to delete your account and register it again on iPhone push mail.
To fix the responding issue, you need to tell your iphone which account is the default account for sending your emails.
touch settings, then mail, and at the bottom of that page in the sending section it asks which account is your default.
The iphone will always use this accoutn to send emails if you start an email outside of the mail program, like by clicking an email in your contacts list or on a webpage.
Now if your in another POP account in the mail program and you click compose message it should be sent from that account.
