The player is probably in the 'demo' mode; check your user guide for instructions for turning it off.

run a cleaning disk through the system -- then try again --- sounds like the unit wont read the disk properly and by moving it -- some dirt or dust may have caused this problem

REMOTE CODE FOR PHILLIPS DVD DVP3140

I don't know if this will work for you since your Philips universal remote is a different model. I tried all the codes listed for a Philips DVD player in my Philips SRU3004/27 universal remote manual. Two of them partially worked (wouldn't let me scan forwards and backwards). The last one they listed did work, code 1214. I suggest trying all the codes in the handout that comes with the remote for Philips DVD players. Make sure each number you press registers (the indicator light on the remote will blink). Philps also lists these codes on their web site. Good luck!

Dvd player dvd3020

This is a known problem with the DVP3020.

I am assuming that your lens cleaner is for CD as well.

Although identical, CDs & DVDs store data completely differently, which means DVD players need two lasers to read both formats.

It sounds like the DVD laser has failed on your player, which is why it will still play your lens cleaner.

Unfortunately the cost of replacing the laser outweighs the value of the player.
The DVP3020 has been replaced by the DVP3120 which is far more reliable.

The DVP3120 with a multi-region modification can be bought for £17.99 from CheapestElectrical.

The Philips dvp3120 in compatible with CD-RWs if the disk is recorded as a VCD (Video CD format). Chances are that you have not used this format. To learn more see http://dvr.about.com/od/capturetvwithacomputer/tp/dvdrec.htm
