My gateway wireless adaptor is not working I cannot get onto internet

FGo to hardware.devices and check for a yellow mark next to any device and in particular your Network Devices. Open the submenus. all of them one at a time and there will be one screen that will show the status. If if states working properly, then that isn't your problem. You still may update the driver from the mfr's site, write down the software version number and date along with the mfr and model number and any description to locate the proper driver. The software version and date should be newer than the one you currently have to install it using a CAT 5 (RJ45) cable connection into your modem. (All wireless modems have at least one CAT 5 (RJ45) port on them to use a cable into your PC.

Laptop will not power up.

  • If possible, make sure there is power coming from the power adaptor with a voltmeter. If nothing shows, the adaptor needs replacing or repairing.
  • Try removing the battery and running on the power adaptor alone. If this works the battery is dead. You can buy a new battery or just run it on the adaptor.

Wireless wont turn on using F2 key. is this

There is a physical wireless switch on the left side of the computer. The switch turns both the wireless network adapter and the bluetooth on and off. You need to first make sure that this switch is on.

With switch in the ON postiton, then you can use the FN-F2 keys to toggle the wireless LAN on and off.

The wireless adaptor is probably a mini-pci card that can be access through a panel on the bottom. Wireless cards on laptops are not considered user-replaceable so Gateway does not show where the panel is or if it's mini-pci card. If there is a panel other than the hard drive and memory then that is where the wireless card is. They are not hard to replace though it's best to try to replace it with an exact model.
If the computer is in warranty, they Gateway will have you send it into their service depot to have it replaced,

Laptop wireless connection

Hi .

LImited access no internet service means that Authentication of your wireless network is not up.

You must know what your wireless encryption is and you can check your manual/guide for your router or gateway on how to access it.If you dont have it anymore than you can access your router by using your desktop computer w/c im sure is hardwired to your router.

By using your desktop we need to look for you default gateway by ff the steps below.

For win xp:

Start > run > cmd .... on the Dos window type in ipconfig /all

it'l then show your default gateway . It would look like this .192.168.xxxx

If you have your default gateway , w/c is your routers physical address Open your favorite browser and on the address bar type in your default gateway. It would route you to your routers page. Most routers ask for your username and password. When youre able to access your router you'l have a chance now to view or change your wireless settings.

Hope that helps. Pls let us know if you have further questions or clarifications.

Good Luck .

Cheers.
