Question about Mitsubishi WS-65807 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Mitsubishi 65" rear projection turns off immediately

Christmas 2011 the TV suddenly turns off. Then it won't turn back on. When the button is pushed, the green light stays on for about 2 seconds before calling it quits. So I ran the self-diagnostic several times, returning the 1-blink then 2-blinks....as if nothing's wrong. Hmm, something is definitely wrong as she won't turn on, and the TV is not detecting any error. What to check next? Please advise. Thanks! -alanfriedl@yahoo.com

Ok, I figured something out.....if I unplug the TV and replug it in, then run the diagnostic self-test (press the MENU and INPUT buttons on the TV simultaneously for 5 seconds), it returns the one-blink then two blinks=nothing wrong. But if I plug 'er in and then try to turn the TV on, and it predictably clicks off in 2 seconds, AND THEN try the diagnostic test, it returns the Two-blinks and Two blinks code, which means something's wrong.

Not sure why that trouble circuit isn't consistent full-time--in my mind's eye, either there's a problem or there isn't; why the mixed signals?

Either way, what to do next is thankfully well discussed here at FixYa. Just hope that this post may be helpful to other searchers confuzzled like I have been by a no-trouble code when there in fact IS trouble.

Of course, any expert chime-ins is always appreciated. Thanks FixYa!

Sorry, one more bit-o-info: The green light does not blink, as I have seen others' posts here. It stays illuminated for about 2 seconds before shutting off. Also, yesterday I had the 2 convergence ICs replaced as bowing/bending had been an issue for months. So when the TV shut itself off for the first time the other day, I figured that replacing them would fix everything.....evidently it didn't. The TV shuts off the same way before and after I replaced the convergence ICs.

If these are fuse issues, particularly the "PICO" fuses, are there "eye tests" to determine failure? Both looked good when I had the board out/off yesterday. Please advise, as this TV now probably has excellent convergence, but I wouldn't know because the TV still won't turn on. Gah!! Thanks!

Well SD TECH obviously didn't read the entire post......BUT, I replaced the 2 5-amp pico fuses myself, with zero prior soldering skill and now the TV works great. It turns on fine, and no convergence issues.

I'm glad I had the courage to tackle this project myself, and encourage any folks in similar situations to at least attempt the fix before shitcanning the TV...you can do it!

SOURCE: Powers on & immediately off

On the middle board there are three green ceramic pico fuses
12_31_2011_7_11_11_pm.pngIf you know how to test them, then test them. If not, then just replace them. They are something like 5 for a dollar. They protect the image side of your TV from the power side. Some people have trouble with the capacitors, but I have never seen it happen. Chances are that you can fix it for a dollar.

Testimonial: "Thanks wp. Yep, the 2 5-amp pico fuses failed the continuity test. Swapped them out and the TV turns on and stays on. Thanks!"

65" mitsubishi rear projection tv won't turn

IF model number posted is correct and green power light comes on for a few seconds and then goes off:
On front of set press and hold both the Menu and Input (device) buttons at the same time for at least five seconds and release both buttons.

Power light will then blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks, a pause and repeat it several times.

Let me know what error code is found and I will tell you what it means.

Mitsubishi 65

My TV did the same thing for a couple of years. It is the precursor to the capasitor going out on the DM board. The good thing is that the capacitors only cost around 4 dollars if you can soldier them yourself.
